Auto light adjustment

We've not had the Mini that long and still fiddling about with all the settings but one thing I can't fathom is the auto lights. Auto lights in all the cars we've had have always been quite good whereas they would only turn the main headlights on when it was getting dark enough to warrant having the headlights on but in the Mini with the switch set to auto the headlights are always on during the day whatever the weather and even in bright sunlight. I'm guessing there's no adjustment, has anyone else had the same issue?

OK, just to be clear, you aren't mistaking the daytime running lights for the headlights are you?
If the auto lights have turned on there is a green lights indicator on the dash illuminated.

No definitely the LED headlights are coming on and the green light in the dash is always on during the day so I'm having to turn the switch to off so just the daytime running lights are on and the headlights and rear lights are off during the day.

Do you turn the switch all the way to the left to turn on the auto lights?

Not anymore because the headlights stay on all the time during the day, this is the problem. Now we just leave it in the off position as in the picture so just the daytime running lights are on and then turn the headlight switch to either auto or low beam headlights when it starts getting dark. Obviously no point whatsoever in having the auto lights in the first place if it doesn't switch the headlights on or off automatically. If no one else has this issue then it sounds like a fault with our car, maybe something to do with the sensor. It's not really a big enough issue to book the car in with Mini just for that so I'll wait until it needs to go in for something else.

Yes, sounds like a fault, ours works fine.
One other 'obvious' thing to check - there isn't a sticker or dead fly covering the sensor?
Do your auto wipers work OK? I guess they might share the sensor.

Thanks all, where is the actual light sensor? Is it at the top of the windscreen with the rain sensor? Isn't the camera for the traffic sign recognition and the radar sensor for the adaptive cruise all in a similar place too?
