I'm from the UK and in my wait for my MCS, I thought I would go around the digital world and have a look at MINIUSA.com to see what they did differently from us brits.

This might just be me, but when I configured the same car that I ordered in the UK just to see what the price difference was, I found this.......

Please can anyone explain why the UK sell the MCS as a 192BHP car:

Whilst the yanks @MINIUSA.com and MINI.ca in Canada sell it as a 189BHP car:

Strange?????

I know it's only 3 horse power but are our friends over the pond getting something different done to their engines?

P.S. You can tell i'm bored while I await delivery...

Aren't the emissions over the pond an absolutely ridiculous strangulator of performance?
I know in the 70's and 80's the US car market was killed by the emissions war. However, you are most right, very odd how they have 3hp difference.

P.S Only my experience but I take all I read from Wiki with a pinch of salt!!

Yes, there could be some extra recirculation of gasses or other such thing that bleeds off a bit of the power.

I wonder if the 189 v 192 difference is down to the octane level of the fuels used for testing. That much difference between Merkan and Yurpeen fuels would not be surprising.

On closer inspection (of that wikipedia page) I now suggest it's the difference between mechanical (imperial) and metric horsepower. The metric horses are slightly smaller... It explains the difference.

It was the same with the R56.

Cooper S was 172 (USA) vs 175 (UK)

and JCW was 208 vs 211

That will be it, I believe Germany(BMW) use the PS measure for BHP which is different to USA BHP very slightly.
The spec. sheet should really have quoted it as PS rather than HP though, I would have thought.
