Hi,
Picked up my JCW on 6th Novermber (built 19th Oct) and wondered if my MINI was a 2016 model year or 2015.

At what point during the year do they change?
What is the difference on a 2016 model year MINI?

Best wishes

From what I understand usually around august / September is when manufacturers usually switch to the next model year.

http://www.bimmer.work/ this should help you

I know there were quite a few changes for the model year for USA bound mini's including fog lights, black in stead of chrome toggle gates and no more mini tags on the seats, but the only change I think is world wide is the removal of the 'hidden compartment' with the storage pack. But I have been wrong before. (don't tell my wife that)

Easy way to tell (though if you're an Oct 15 build, it's most definitely a 2016 - July productionis when MINI switches to 2016):

If your windows switches have symbols on them, it is a 2016. The 2015s and 2014s were plain chrome switches. They added a window symbol to the switches to make it more clear what they do. If you have the powerfold mirror option, you will also see the folding mirror symbol on the round button that folds the mirror in for the same reason. 14-15 had just a plain black button.

siriuszero is correct. They started the 2016 JCW is July as I recall. Yours is definitely a 2016.

Our JCW was Built end July 2015 and was 2016 I believe
Derek, does your JCW have the "hidden compartment" on the dash? Just curious.

No or the cargo net or side sun visor , but I managed to get mini to compensate me as was told on spec I would get these things
Thanks Derek, that confirms all the rumors before 2016! I remember now when you went through that.

My 2015 has all of those features...weird! I especially like the side sun visor!

My better half has a '15 Mini Cooper 2-door Hardtop.

I have a '16 Mini Cooper 2-door Hardtop.

There are some significant differences--we both have the base model. Stock radio too.

Her '15 has the driver's side sun visor, secret compartment, seat tags, middle armrest.

My '16 also has the driver's side sun visor and seat tags but NO secret compartment and NO armrest. Neither of our cars have the netting in the boot.

If it weren't for my former career as a broadcaster in radio for over a decade, I might say I'm a little crazy--but I'll be doggoned if the stock radio & speakers in my '16 sound much better, more bass depth and less tinny treble than my wife's '15. And I spent a good amount of time in her '15 to be able to compare.

Neither her '15 nor my '16 have icons on the window switches.

My wife's '15--when using the FOB to unlock/lock the doors--does NOT flash the lights on the front or tail lights.

My '16 DOES flash all lights when unlocking the doors and/or the boot. I've checked the settings on our radios, there aren't any options to turn this on or off on our '15 or '16.

My '16 has heated front seats--my wife's '15 does not. I looked at both our window stickers--they're nearly the same, verbatim; except for line items for heated seats for my '16, armrest for her '15. There is no mention on either sticker about "packages" included on either car. So it seems like the manufacturer just decided to add an option here/there. We did NOT pre-order our vehicles.

These are the most differences I can think of right now, we're both on Christmas work vacations so we've spent plenty of time in each vehicle (we trade off days driving cars). Will edit this post if I discover more…though I do realize our family seems to be in the minority. Seems like nearly all the posts here are from folks with a JCW or with a lot of options…but it's fun to learn about the trade-offs/differences between what are the exact same model vehicle with the same engines & just different model years.

Yes, it does seem sort of strange this discrepancies don't appear have a particular pattern or time frame. Our build was September 09, 2015, and it has the driver's side sun visor. There is no cargo net and even if there was you would be required to make modifications in the cargo area to use it. However, this all seems insignificant while you are zooming around some twisties. I am really anxious for some good warmer weather to take it into the mountains and wring it out! I will determine then if I can live with the runcraps a little longer or if I must immediately install some good tires!

Boy, am I a dope.

I *did* find the setting in my better half's '15 to make the lights flash when using the FOB to unlock/lock the car.

Mine is June 15 model and I dont have the side sun visor or the cargo net however I do have the small storage compartment.
Strange!

Same here, July 2015 MCS and no side visor and cargo net but I do have the secret storage compartment.

I believe that in Belgium the side visor and cargo net is part of a package and not a standard feature.
