2017 Mini Cooper S Works 210 Review - Inside Lane

It looks like the cooper s with jcw chilli pack which retails for £22.8k and then the dealer fit tuning kit (£1.6k)on top of that which would be £24.4k which they are selling for £21.6k so a good saving if the spec is right.

For me if you want a car to look like a JCW then the extra £2k shouldnt be too much more (albeit in base jcw trim).

I must admit I prefer the look of the S over the JCW (flame suit on) with its fog lights and bumper design but can understand those who prefer the JCW look.

Bloody annoying the PRO exhaust is optional on the full fat JCW but the wannabe S Works gets it standard!!!

It's real simple.....MARKETING! On the one hand I think it's great that MINI offers such a great variety of cars! On the other hand, for those of us who plunked down ALOT of money for a new F56 JCW, some may feel a bit miffed that the exclusivity of having a JCW is watered down with all of the JCW wannabe renditions of the MINI.

For me, it's all good because they are all great cars! I do think some of the add ons for the JCW should have at least been offered to those of us who ordered the new JCW....for me I didn't even know about the JCW Pro options! New models always experience growing pains & buyers cannot educate themselves too much before buying.

Yes, I miss the fog lights on my JCW, but there is a very good reason for them not being there...that makes it alright with me, and there's one thing that can't be "copied" by a non-JCW! It is definitely a more aggressive look with the additional intake area in the grill opening!

I can't wait to see the JCW GP Edition when it launches! ;-)

Again though, in the end it's all good! Not many car makers generate the excitement in special editions & by owner modifications than MINI!

Cheers,

John

Interesting observation! Does this mean that you can get an extra circa 20bhp on the JCW with the PRO exhaust?

I'd love to know the full spec of this Works 210, it's not on the UK configurator yet
Shame it still has 'sh!te brakes' Need to know if those wheels are JCW spec ie the 4 pot brake upgrade fits OK....

the Tuning kit is the exhaust and the small ECU map to make it 210.
the wheels are only available with the jcw chilli pack so i would assume they are the same as the JCW wheels which you can spec so they should fit over the brakes.
Although the wheels on this model are 17" Track Spoke alloys, they are different from the 17" Track Spoke alloys that are used on the JCW model which fit over the JCW brake calipers.

The PRO exhaust offers around 9bhp on the JCW when in the open position.

So when you upgraded the brakes you needed new wheels too? How much did that cost?<gulp> Got any pics?

Either new wheels or use 20mm spacers on standard wheels but this can cause problems with catching wheel arches or look odd if the car is not lowered.

Any of the JCW wheels will fit but obviously you will need to factor in those costs...

I have had to replace my 17" Cosmos wheels with JCW 17" Race Spoke wheens when I had my brakes fitted
I've driven one (it was the one in the video) and it's a hoot, I'd driven the Cooper S in the past but this feels more of an animal, most likely due to the colour and body kit.

I've not driven the the JCW and can only assume it gives that little bit more.

The brakes worked well which was just as well around the country lane I took it ;)

The exhaust is a bit addictive to say the least :D

Hi Davy
How come you got to drive this? You work for Mini?

No don't work for MINI but be cool to drive MINIs about all day ;)

It was a press day that I sort of blagged my way into, got to drive the 210 Works, All4 SD Clubman, BMW 740LI & M2 Coupe.

The 740 was massive, to big! The M2 was a riot to drive but can see it would be easy to lose your licence! The 210 Works was great fun but my favourite was the Clubman and I never expected to say that :)

Maybe late, this Mini with the big brakes, and 18' wheels. This kind of wheels are in 2 different shapes, for to fit with jcw Brakes and without. The spokes are slightly curved outside ( concave ) cross spoke 506
