Most likely that is normal because torque steer exists.
It's not heavily pronounced on the MINI, but it's definitely there.

It is normal to have some torque steer on FWD (and probably front-based AWD?) when you floor it (especially in lower gears). As long as the car doesn't pull to any of the sides under normal circumstances or minor acceleration, there's nothing to worry about

Sounds like torque steer to me. The JCW is under tyred ... it should be fitted with wider tyres for the torque or the engine.

I found I had to change my driving style so that I was more progressive with the accelerator.

That depends on the FWD design. I had a Honda CRX (mk 2 VTEC) which had equal-length half-shafts so didn't suffer torque steer. Typical FWD has unequal shafts though (as the engine is usually mounted transversely with the gearbox on one end), so you have to just deal with it.

Yep, I know. Not saying all FWD have torque steer but that it’s normal to have torque steer on FWD. However, IIRC barely any fwd cars nowadays have no-torque steer suspension design. Megane RS maybe?

Oh, yeah, definitely torque steer. If you hit full throttle in the SE, you better have your hands on the wheel or you'll be paying a visit to your neighbor on the right (unless you manage to get ahead before the effect becomes REALLY pronounced). You know it's there, be ready for it.
