It is normal to have some torque steer on FWD...

That depends on the FWD design. I had a Honda CRX (mk 2 VTEC) which had equal-length half-shafts so didn't suffer torque steer. Typical FWD has unequal shafts though (as the engine is usually mounted transversely with the gearbox on one end), so you have to just deal with it.
