An "hello" to all, with a question.

I have an opportunity to lease a new 2015 MCS at dealer invoice. I am a little "twitchy" about buying it because I have read quite a few posts on different sites about problems. This is a bare bones 6 speed manual S with the only options: heated seats, SiriusXM radio for a year, hood stripes, all weather mats and wheel locks. I am actually not interested in other options so....good deal? Jump on it tomorrow or not? You input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Crowdog

Well you're posting this on a mini forum, so you're going to get mostly very biased answers. But take one for a test drive. If you like it and you don't intend to transport large amounts of cargo I'd say sure go buy it. Many others have bought it paying more than dealers invoice. If you don't like it or the car size doesn't suit your life then don't buy it. I don't think problems or potential problems are a reason not to buy this car though. You get a warranty for a reason.

Thank you for your input sir. Drove the Mini as well as a VW GTI, Ford ST and a Honda Civic SI. Guess my real question is: is invoice price a good deal on a 2015 with the '16's out now?
Hard to say. Dealer invoice doesn't usually include rebates that dealerships may receive. So while they give it to you at 'invoice price' they are actually getting $500 or $1000 or whatever rebate from MINI, especially to help in moving 2015 stock. That being said, many people on here have been happy to pay MSRP on a new mini since most dealers won't offer any break in the price. If you're happy with what the car then go for it. You only live once. Besides, VW is going through a rough patch, Hondas are boring, and nobody wants a Ford :p

Hey crowdog. The problems you are reading about on other sites are they regarding MINIs in general or this specific generation of MINI? Definitely poke around here to get a sense of any common issues. This forum is an excellent resource and I would say is fairly balanced in terms of opinion. Sure people here love their car, but you'll see just about every problem here as well which is nice since usually you'll see a problem pop up before dealers even notice it.

Dromedary is right though, the best thing is to drive it and compare it to other cars you're interested in. Honestly, if you're leasing the car long-term reliability isn't really a big deal since you will only have the car for a few years and all maintenance/repair will be covered by the dealer.

Crowdog, I am also a 1st time Mini owner drove anything from Alfa to Porsche. I got my Mini since April of this year and absolute love the car. It is in the top 3 of would buy another one Category. I only got the 3 Banger not the S but the S will be my next Mini. I think all cars these days will have problems down the road look at other Brands like Mercedes Audi BMW. If you have a good Dealer that takes care of you and the car having some hick ups it is easier to tolerate imho.

It is hard to say if you got a good deal. If you are happy with the deal than it is a good deal. Mini,s sell so well dealers do not have to work too hard on the price. I only got $ 1500.00 off MSRP but the Mini Dealer treated me well on the trade.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to share your thoughts. I really liked the way the GTI drives but have a hard time with the generic look of the car. The SI looks a bit too "boy racer" and I do not care for the lack of low end grunt from the V-tec engine. (have had two V-tec's in the past) ST just felt, hmmmm...coarse. I was surprised how quiet the MCS is, especially on the highway and found the ride quality (even on run flats) much better than I expected. I also like the S's look and think the interior is first rate in the new F56. I believe my biggest problem with it may be keeping my right foot under control so I don't start "collecting" speeding tickets. It's pepper white with black roof, mirrors and hood stripes. Looks like I will be picking it up tomorrow. Thanks again.

Yep I've just got a normal Cooper, and love it. It's pretty quick and so much fun to drive. Think the Mini has something about it that whilst looking sporty, it also appeals to a lot of people so gets a nice reaction wherever you go.

I seem to get nice comments from guys and girls, and my girlfriend doesn't feel out of place driving the car, neither do I. The interior is definitely one of the F56's biggest selling point to me, absolutely love it every time I get in.

Any more questions feel free to ask, hope you enjoy it.

The Mini is now sitting in my driveway. Thanks to all for your advise to an old guy who is rapidly sliding into his 3rd, maybe 4th, childhood.

I took a test drive in the MINI shortly after BMW reintroduced it to the USA. I have said every since to anyone who will listen, go test drive a MINI, even if you don't mean to buy: Go test drive one. You will not leave the lot without a smile on your face.

Go test drive it, ask for some extra liberties on the test drive, do some crazy (but safe) things to check out how it handles on a level YOU think are good. Don't be afraid to ask if you can take a detour through "that parking lot" and test out the speed bumps.

Heck, take two test drives. I did. It's like a free go kart ride. Why would anyone pass that up?

... and you already bought yours. Congratulations! See this is what happens when you don't read the whole thread before responding kids.

My statements stand for anyone on the fence. Go for it. You have nothing to lose... except maybe a boring day.

Quick update after having the MCS for a month. I could write a long review of all that I like about the car but I will simply say that I like it even more each time I drive it. It has brought back the "fun factor" to driving for me. Am so glad I chose it over the other cars I considered.
