I am trying to compare the Cross Leather: Punch Black Sport Seats with the Dinamica Sport Seats (with red trim) for my JCW.

I like the "all black" feature for the Punch Black Sport Seats, but I cannot find any good pics of these seats.

Anyone have experience with them?

Thanks,

John

Do you remember the overall look? Is there swede along the edges like the red trimmed seats - only black? What does the punched out leather look like? Similar to time Recaro punched vinyl inserts (like on the BMW E21)?

They are totally "black" correct?

Finally, would you say the bolsters are as large as the Dinamica Leather Sport Seats? I know they also have the lumbar adjustment, which is something I think I need to have.

Sorry for all the questions, but my order has been placed, but since I want the manual transmission in my JCW, the order could get processed anytime...I just have no clue if that can be next week or a month or two from now.

Thanks!

Yes there is suede on the side bolsters where there is red on the JCW for comparison. The "punch" is mostly on the thigh extender and I belive on the top half of the seat below the headrest. It's just small perforations that create a diamond pattern. The seat bottom and back are leather. Yes they are all black seats. The JCW with the red look like almost all suede. I don't know how big the JCW bolsters are but I'm sure they are sufficent. The mcs sport seats felt plenty snug to me. I'm sure the JCW will be snugger.

I have them. I think they look great but find them a little narrow and I'm not big. My right thigh constantly pressed against the bolster which is a little uncomfortable on longer journeys. Not sure if the JCW will be the same size.

This is a decent picture of the seats
That looks very nice, what I can see of it anyway. :)

This makes me wonder....I've heard similar comments about the Leatherette Sport Seats....the only seats I've actually seen in person and driven in. I found them to be comfortable, but I was only in the car for 20 to 30 minutes, and I was paying attention to a ton of other things getting acquainted with the car during my test drive.

Here's my main beef with MINI: They need to stop spending so much time & effort on the online configurator (computer generated photos) and catchie phrases, and provide buyers with some actual specifications and photos & details of items like the wheels, complete with offset information, interior pieces..like all the various seat options with full explanations, complete dimensions, materials, etc., so potential buyers can actually analyze and make informed decisions before spending a fortune! Come on, not every person is going to be able to test drive the exact car they purchase...there are what?..10 million configurations???

Sorry for the slight rant, but I find it extremely frustrating that more information like this is not made available to buyers. Most MINI advisers just don't have access to a lot of the kind of information some of us want and need before making a solid decision when buying.

I've narrowed my seat options down to three, and I've requested dimensions between the thigh supports on each....we'll see if I get any details.

I don't know of any other car maker that provides the size information of the seat between the side bolster. Seems like a silly piece of information to list.

When I look at the ever-so-reliable configurator it looks like all the sport seats are the same width - they just have different surfaces, colors, and textures.

I don't know what your dealer has in inventory but mine had a couple of cars with lounge seats in their 'loaded' vehicle stock. If the lounge and the stock sport seats have the same width I think you can be reasonably confident the punch ones will be too - if anything they look less altered than the lounge seats.

My other suggestion would be to go on autotrader and do some mini searches. That's how I found pictures of the satellite grey seats and interior I ended up choosing - there was one in Seattle. Who knows...you might get lucky and find a dealer with punch black somewhere near-ish.

I have these seats in my 2014MC, I went for a 95% black car, only roof and mirrors white, interior all black. I find the sports seats very comfortable and I am not a lightweight and have had a total knee replacement and both hips resurfaced. I spent at least an hour twice a day in the car and last weekend did a 2 1/5 hour stint without a break no problem.

That's encouraging! I want "black" in the interior as well. I opted for the piano black dash/panel trim also. Do you have the sport seats style? If so, are the bolsters large like on the JCW sport seats? In photos they all look basically the same, but I san't get any definite answers on any dimensions.

That's not what I asked. I need information about space between the thigh supports....HUGE difference! That is where your butt goes! ;) I don't agree...dealers should know answers to such questions. if they don't know, they should be able to find out.

Those are good ideas...I actually did find some good information on Autotrader, especially about the JCW Dinamica Sport Seats. These seats are exclusive to JCW's so I know there's not going to be much owner information about these seats out there yet, since very few JCW's are in owner's hands yet!

I still think the Punch Black Leather Sport Seats may be a good compromise between the standard non-adjustable lumbar support sport seats and the exclusive Dinamica Leather JCW Sport Seats.

I'm going to see if my dealer can hunt done a car with theswe seats and get some good quality photos for me.

Like I said, just my opinion. My old car had full leather recaro's and were infinitely more comfortable. I also find the pedals a little too offset yo the right - maybe I just need to adjust my position a little. They do look good though !

Looks like the dinamica seats may have wider bottom bolsters and certainly have larger side bolsters. They also do not have adjustable headrests (which I'm sure you already knew). Here are some comparison shots:

Thanks for the input...very much appreciated. I was able to get some dimensions today from a dealer in Texas who has a JCW with the Dinamica Seats and my dealer who measured the Leatherette Sport Seats for me.

FYI, all the sport seats, including the JCW Dinamica, have 16" wide seat bottoms. They are all apparently the same.

As for the bolsters (side at least), it does appear that the JCW Dinamica's are a bit larger, but basically (other than the built in headrests on the basic Cloth Dinamica JCW Sport Seats and the JCW redlined Dinamica Sport Seats) all seat dimensions are about the same. Appearance may vary somewhat due to the seat materials used.

I am still very interested in the Punch Black however, since they have the lumbar adjustment and the black Dinamica trim...plus, they are leather which smells better than Leatherette.

For those of you who have the Punch Black, can you tell me if they are "all leather"?...and if not, what are the other materials & where are they? The online configurator says this as a description...which is a bit confusing:

Cross Leather: Punch Carbon Black

Carbon Black leather covers the front and shoulders of the seat with a perforated diamond pattern, joining with a surrounding Dinamica band to create a balance between traditional and sporty. Includes adjustable lumbar support. (Note: This upholstery requires Sport Seats on Cooper models. All seating surfaces are cloth and leather. Other components may be cloth or leatherette.)

I have the Punch black seats - Every surface I can see on mine is leather, with the exception of the trim on the sides of the seats, which is Dinamica; a suede/alcantara-like material. I'm not 100% certain on the back of the seats, but from memory I think it's also leather.

I believe that only the seat bottom and back rest are real leather while the back side of the seat is leatherette.

That's interesting. Then, what do the rear seats look like?

That would make sense.
