Hi... has anyone found an aftermarket bike rack that fits the 5 door mini well (either rear or roof mounted)? I don't have the roof bar option, nor bike rack preparation. The Thule website doesn't have an option, and Yakima only seem to have roof racks for the new 3 door.

Saris bones 2 and 3 are listed on Saris website for F56, so should be OK for F55.

I just need to check to see if rear wiper auto activates when front wipers are on and you select reverse, if it does I will need a space rear wiper that is cut down 3".

just added the Yakima rack to my mini 3dr, even though I knew there was no change to the 14 vs the 15 I waited until it became an option in Yakima line -up. I think that the 5dr should show up soon. give it some time. I just finished installation a hour ago and I'm quite pleased with results.

Pretty much any aftermarket carrier will fit the F55 with no problems at all. but id go for a high mount to make sure you don't put too much load onto the roof spoiler with the top straps. :0)

The spoiler was my main concern - it flexes too much under my old rear-rack, which also completely covers the lights and number plate when fitted to the mini. Quite a lot of the ones I've seen appear to run the top straps down to the rack (rather than horizontal). E.g. the Saris bones looked like it would put a lot of weight on the spoiler.

Yep, you don't want to put any load on the spoiler if you can help it. High mounts are better for this as the top straps can be higher, or horizontally aligned with the top of the spoiler. You can get low mount carriers to achieve this too in some cases, but you need to know what your doing ;0)

Depends on usage really, if your looking to transport bikes more than 5 times a year - I'd recommend a roof mount option every time ;0)

As for covering the number plate.... Most carriers (or the bikes on them) will obscure the plate in some way, yes it's illeagal, but you have to be really unlucky to get a ticket for it

Bike racks aren't vehicle specific so you can look for any after market hitch. Which receiver size are you looking for? There's quite a few options on hitchweb's website: Bike Carriers

They have everything from hitch mounted bike racks to trunk mounted bike racks.

Hope this helps!

Is it actually possible to fit these (Thule 1770) on an F55 which has no mounting points/rails on the roof? I also have sun-roof, will its functionality be impacted?

I noted this thule kit just yesterday.

I'm about to buy my first mini and I was really annoyed to put the optional roof rails; on the white roof the rails are horrible, on the black is better but it limits me in the color choice (I prefer white roof).

Now, this thule kit save me and let me choice more color options.

Anyway, are there some cons to use these bars without roof rails? I don't need to transport often huge weight, just some bikes or small packages.

Thanks for the help.

Note I don't actually own these / have never used anything similar - needed them for a road-trip back in April but had to make do without in the end.

I think this is the case they are designed for - from the manual they slot into the door openings and clamp down. There are some measurements in there too you could check how high the sunroof opens.

Same for me- wanted a white roof and didn't want the black rails to go with them.

At a guess the main cons would be: noise, less MPG, possible scratching of the roof.

Can anyone please post pictures of a roof rack fitted to an F55 using the Thule 1770 fixing kit and advise of any problems? On another matter has anyone managed to fit rear mud flaps town F55 (I've fitted front mud flaps from an F56 which are fine but can't source rear ones - the dealer says they haven't been manufactured yet)!?
