Could be more useful for those of us in the UK but it looks like Bluespark have finally launched their tuning box for the B38 engine.

http://bluesparkautomotive.com/catalog/product/view/id/65236/s/Mini-Cooper/

Now it only takes it to 158PS (156BHP) and 250Nm of torque, which is low compared to the 167PS (165BHP) and 270Nm that TMC promise. However reading their site it appears that they try and tune for the most usable power, rather than just peak figures.

Cheap too, at £174.99 instead of £329 for the TMC one.

They have a 30 day no quibble return policy so if it's not noticeable I'm sure you could return it. I've nearly bought one three times this morning. Haha.

It does say it has 5 selectable power curves and as mentioned £175 seems very cheap for a tuning box...

They also do one for other Mini models too... I've not read anyone with a Mini who has written a review online yet though

In Italy they say that the remapping of the ECU is really a difficult job.
I have information of a few and rar cases of work performed: 2 or 3 only.

I'm always a bit hit and miss with tuning boxes, I prefer a good remap personally... but that's just me.

I've contacted the guys over at P-torque to see if they've cracked it yet :)

I would never, EVER remap a car still under warranty.

P Torque have a map available for the f56 JCW offering up to 280bhp and they've got a pre Christmas offer of 15% discount on at the moment so it's about £420.

The debate of tuning box V remap will run forever and everyone will have their own thoughts. Personally I would of originally swayed towards a remap as I did on my old Clubbie S but the boxes seem more favourable now as removing and opening the ECU on a car under warranty is a tad concerning and feels more permanent than an OBD port flash map.

Do you have any evidence to support this?

Well I've had a previously remapped Mini Cooper D that was

A) sold to me with the remap on that the dealer didn't notice when they sold me it (direct mini)

B) service and reviewed due clutch requiring replacement that the dealer again didn't notice the remap

C) it was only when I took it to a separate mapper that they were able to detect the map and that was with a lot of effort and having to stick it onto a rolling road to show the increase in output.

id be more worried about why your going to P Torque - over on minitorque for gen2, there is no love anymore since a couple of cars went bang.
Each to their own i guess. a tuning box seems to be the safest approach right now.

Interesting. I didn't know that, I used to follow them on 'total mini' and everyone was raving about them back when I had my cooper D...

100% agree
I wouldn't ever touch p-torque most of the minis they have been tuning have gone bang. Most recently r53's.

Still seems anecdotal to me.
