Hello all,

I just thought I'd let you all know that whilst my car was in for a few faults this week, one of them was having my bonnet aligned because it has dropped on the drivers side so the chrome doesn't line up and the bonnet is almost close enough to rub on the fender panel and remove paint.

The Body Shop have told me that it would NOT be covered under warranty and its a four hour job... Based on an hourly rate guesstimate I can already tell you I will NOT be paying for it.

Just thought I'd let you know if you do indeed have the same issue - that don't be shocked when they tell you it's not under warranty!

P.S. I'm waiting to hear back from the Body Shop regarding a quotation and what the job actually entails, I have a feeling it's not just a screw to lift the bonnet up like I'd hoped.

Try just tweaking the nuts very slightly loose and then shut the bonnet by letting it slam, this should realign it. With the bonnet skin being so soft for pedestrian safety this is how the bonnet should be shut and supposedly keeping it aligned.

Bloody wrong it's not a warranty issue though!

Tell me about it guys... See I thought it would be a matter of twisting a few screws to raise the bonnet - but looking at the arm and hinges when the bonnet is up I cannot to the life of me see where I'm able to turn bolts due to them being painted over.

Brandon is your car still under warranty? If so the Dealer should adjust the hood under warranty imo. Do you know anybody/ friend that got a body shop that could do it for you?

MINI bonnets sure seem to be a bit finicky! From alignment to being prone to denting. Now I know why there's no dipstick...they don't really want owners "under the hood"...it's such a technical matter after all! lol! Good luck with the fix Brandon!

Brandon maybe you can buy them Service Techs a couple of pints at the local Pup to help you out with your hood.;);) 2 weeks ago I dropped off 3 large Pizzas at my Dealer (for the Service Dept.) as a "Thank you for the great Service" I received over the last 18 Month and boy not only could they put a face to "Evlkarl" but it seems I now have more techs hanging around my Mini when I brought it in the last time. :D:D Hey if it works in american politics it should work at the Dealer.>:D>:D>:D

Totally agree Davyboy-even if they're saying it's happened with use it shouldnt have-so unless you have bashed it and there would be a dint surely it HAS to be warranty; customer service at your place seems a bit shabby Brandon. They need a kick up the!

There are indeed pyrotechnics under the bonnet at the hinge area so be careful if fiddling!

Apart from that I can't see how this isn't warranty!

If your dealer isn't playing ball get on to MINI UK..

The representative that I have dealt with from Quality Standards at MINI FS has been copied in all of the emails so if they do come back and say they won't be able to do it under warranty then looks like I'll be writing another email.

Nobody has hit my car, it's been like that since day one - I have email correspondence from when my car went in for the folding mirror issue the very first time, 3-4 weeks after delivery that mentions the bonnet.

I had a Ford with chrome multi spokes alloys that had rust starting, car was 2 years old but you only got 1 year back then, went to local dealer who said no covered as classed as trim!! Went to another dealer and again told not covered!

Rang Ford and explained and 2 dealers rejected but in my view a rusty wheel is structure, they agreed straight away and gave me a reference number to take to a dealer of my choice. It gave me great pleasure of returning to the first smarmy service adviser and waving the reference number under his nose, "4 new wheels and make it snappy" :D

Just keep on at them which I'm sure you will :)

My bonnet was not aligned

And it was so easy to fix i did it myself.

The bonnet hooks two of them inside in front the hook that catches when the bonnet is closed.

They are adjustable my hand.

There is a black plastic clip that covers them.

If you unclip and remove that then you will be able to screw the hook in or out.

When i removed my it was clear that that were not screw to the same level.

***note before doing this i was certain that the misalignment was onmy on the front

The bonnet was aligned correctly by the windscreen side.

Yeah my bonnet looks aligned at the front but has dropped to the driver's side fender, right in front of the windscreen.

It doesn't look like there's anything user friendly under that part of the bonnet. :|

I'd leave it to them at the hinge points; unless it is just the metal trim that has moved a bit and needs pressing back down, the hinges area looks very complex!

Yah its its dropped by the fender and windscreen then yah i would leave it to the technicians since there is some pedestrian protection parts in that part of the bonnet.

I will post pictures of the hat i was talking about later.
