Hi, my brake pad low warning sensor came on the other week (only done 17k) and my wife drives the car mostly and is not a fast driver/heavy broker! Still none the less I changed the pads and replaced the sensor for the total sum of £39! Problem is I don't know how to reset the warning notification. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

Good question and hopefully someone will be along shortly who can answer.

Where did you get the brake pads from; when I looked recently no one stocked them (including on the internet) - they could only be sourced through dealerships?

If the warning light generates a fault code, it should be able to to cleared and the light extinguished by using one of the gadgets that plugs into the OBD port.

My Scangauge does that and has been invaluable on my old MG for diagnosing what is wrong when the engine light comes on (usually a faulty lambda sensor) and clearing the code and resetting the light. I hope it will do the same on the Mini.

There are plenty of other such devices out there, cheaper too, but perhaps not so informative.

As kenl says a seires of button presses with ignition in the on did it nice and simply on the r56 and would hope it would be the same on the f56. since it is all bmw the current bmw method ought to work if they are different?!

Hi Jbkudos. Just tried resetting brake pad warning light on f56 Mini One. Hold the odometer reset button (on the speedo) for about 10 seconds and the option to reset each light (oil service etc as on the R56) appears. Short presses then allow reset if it is available.

Ok guys here it is! due to bmw lying to me and telling me that my car needed to be plugged into special software for which i needed to pay half hour labour for I've decided to share this with the world. Don't pay to have the light reset! its not compulsory to have your car serviced at the bmw dealership! if you have had the brakes done elsewhere and changed the sensor (which you will need to do).

SIMPLY

press start button to first stage of ignition (do not start engine)

Wait for red brake sensor warning to disappear

press odometer and hold (about 15 - 20 seconds)

Hey presto you have the reset menue

Now just press and hold

Then press and hold again to reset.

If it doesn't work then reset the odometer to zero and try again.

This will not work without the sensor being changed which is a 10 min job that anyone can do. just take the wheel off and its there but only on one side.

Thx jimmy7463. I did the warning reset myself yesterday, and it worked like a charm. I even showed it to the dealer (non authorised) who was thrilled!!
PS: Total cost €79 rear break pads set with sensor + labor.
Saw the rear pads, and they are really tiny. No wonder why they don't last more than 20k km!

I got 23K on my Mini now and no brake warning lights came on yet. Come thinking of it I barely use my brakes I just zip thru traffic.:D:D

25K and no brake warnings yet. But now I've probably jinxed it.

can you get discs as well?

I was warned last time that my discs are lipped..

Can you get discs from your company too? I was quoted just under £400 by mini for just front discs and pads..

Annoying that they make the discs out of such wearable metal!

Discs are now generally considered wear and tear items by all manufacturers since pads had to become harder and more abrasive due to the removal of asbestos. HOWEVER mini policy is to change them if they have a chance of becoming worn to tolerance within the next specified service interval ie VERY VERY early so i would def do my own! 50k miles per set of discs would be acceptable i would think!

what happens when no light comes on, this happen, low and behold we had loud noises, took it to a brake repair shop, nearly 1500 later, they told me there are no sensor lights fitted, hence no light comes up on dash, Adelaide mini say they come factory fitted.
Can any one shed any light on this as it is a safety concern and expensive.
Dave.
