My chassis number also starts with 2A. I checked some of the numbers before mine to see which ones already having tracking info and are on a boat to the US and the first I found was loaded onto the vessel in Southhampton (also starting with 2A, obviously). That would indicate that at least that Mini (a Cooper S) was built in Oxford.
So maybe the first digit of the VIN is not conclusive anymore.

Are you sure the 2As boarded at Southampton? And the ship from Zeebrugge didn't just stop there to pick up some T-numbered ones?

I don't know if anyone has tried a 2A in the VIN lookup but it should say which plant they came from on there

I tried mine on the link from profiteroles and it doesn't show which factory. My chassis begins at 2A as well and mine was loaded in Southhampton on 08/28/14:

LOADED ON VESSEL SOUTHAMPTON 31-08-2014 08:52:00 1 RECEIVED AT TERMINAL SOUTHAMPTON 28-08-2014 17:33:00 1 BOOKED SOUTHAMPTON 28-08-2014 17:31:00 1

That to me suggests that the site ID (11th Character) of "2" is not yet entered into the lookup system.

Which given that Nedcar have only just these last few months started with BMW..... could point to them being built at Nedcar.

Oohhhhh!!! I'm excited already! Thanks again, appreciate the help :)

Well... I've had two now (my first F56 was written off and I'm taking delivery of my second next week or the week after) and both had their data online on the Weds of the build week... BUT... both were "T" chassis numbers.

Not sure if the "2" numbers are the same. it'll be interesting to find out - keep us informed! :)

I asked the dealer concerning the 2 digit and whether this means its a netherlands build. His answer was the 2 digit which begins the chassis number is in fact OXFORD. Apparently its the digit 3 that relates to Holland.

I guess when they get to T999999 they must then move on to another digit... but a quick vin check of T999999 suggests they haven't got there yet... mine was only built last week and it is T950xxx.

(The number is sequential FYI)

So I wonder why they would suddenly start using 2 instead of T for "some" cars at Oxford...Someone needs to go on the tour and ask the question!

My chassis starts 2A when I enter it into the site I get all my details (produced on 13/10/2014) but the Assembled in line is not present. I think 2A probably does mean Holland and I suspect that the Mini One delays we experienced were in part due to problems getting production up to speed in Holland (get the feeling that Mini Ones are being produced in Holland).

Some 2A cars could be shipped from Southampton as perhaps they were shipped separately to the UK and then added to a shipment from the UK.

I get the feeling our Mini One's are being produced over in Holland as well. Have no problem with that though, just assumed it would be produced in Oxford.

Will keep everyone posted on any changes :)
