In sport mode the exhaust crackling... how is generated?
A little fuel post-injection in the chamber with the exhaust valve open?
Is not dangerous for the cat?...for the turbo? ...oil dilution?
How does this little fuel drop pop? Cat high temp. or by exhaust gases themselves?

There is a statistics about evenctual trouble in a car usage in 100% sport mode?

...I'm very curious!

I don't think BMW/Mini would have put in this feature if they felt it caused any trouble.. they test these cars for hundreds of thousands of miles!

This feature is now found in a lot of different sporting type cars

I know...but I continue to want to understand how it works
By an intentionally released droplets of fuel on run in... since it doesn't fire in the cylinders it goes through and ignites in the exhaust, probably in the exhaust manifold. Might be more to it than that but that's the basics.

I've probably over simplified it but don't worry the cat is not going to suffer. The droplets are minuscule and ignite well before passing through the cat as exhaust gas.
