does anyone have a rough idea how much data is used when using your phone in car for accessing apps such as mini connected, internet radio etc? is it a flat amount to connect or does it cost per minute?

just trying to work out how it work with my current 1Gb monthly data allowance on my contract

That is quite a difficult question to give a definitive answer to. Constant streaming such as Spotify or Youtube will eat away at your data. So 1GB would not be enough. However if you were using Spotify I believe you can download at home flagging it for offline playback, and then use it that way.

In regards to the specific Mini app data usage I am unsure as I have never used it, but as data is not constantly streamed it might be minimal. For example if you were to access Facebook on your phone you are only using data when opening pictures, scanning your news feed and sending/receiving messages. The data usage for these are usually quite minimal and therefore 1GB would be enough.

I hope in some way this answers your question as there is no specific yes or no answer.

Digital vs analogue is different to broadcast vs internet.

FM is broadcast analogue. DAB is broadcast digital. Internet is point to point streaming digital.

...and you can't do analogue over the internet :)
