Hey there,

I am doubting either to get a Mini Cooper Diesel Automatic or a Mini Couper Diesel Petrol?
I know that the diesel will have less HP but the over all power in some how balances with the Petrol version....

But my main concern is the distinctive vibration that diesel cars have when running in low speed to stop ....
I guess the petrol will run smother and with a cleaner ride? but will it increase the consumption ....

Over all I don't mind to spend a bit more in combustible, and I was a smooth clean, ride....

Hello,

dont even hesitate and go for Petrol.

Only aceptable use for diesel engine is in big family estate (combi) or SUV.

Mini in his tradition deserves gasoline.

You need to test drive both. If you're doing big mileage poss diesel if you like them but I am a petrol f an.

horses for courses,i do mileage so S diesel for me,had diesel with my clubman over 4 and a half years and had no issues with vibration at low rpm's.

As per other comments suggest you test drive both, as each unit delivers in different ways.The petrol fans always dismiss diesel and usually put the choice down to how much mileage a person is likely to do, for me this was not the issue, I preferred the power/torque delivery of the diesel. Despite two long test drives I found the S didn't feel that quick until it reached 4600rpm it's main shove being at the top end, the diesel being the opposite in that its main shove is at the lower end, but for me the mid range in the diesel feels stronger thanks to 266 torque. The petrol however does and always will sound better, and at idle is smoother than the diesel but modern diesels have come a long way and insulation in the Mini is very good at dampening the diesel noise etc. Both the BMW Petrol/ Diesel engines are quality units each having typical character traits of their respective fuel, have fun on the test drives.

Our previous MINI was a BMW diesel Clubby and it really was a great drive; liked the torque & power delivery very much. But I was worried about the UK government's evolving views on diesel's exhaust quality. Will they increase diesel fuel duty? Will they charge more for road tax on diesel cars?

So I plumped for petrol... and the new petrol engine's were getting good reviews.
