I've got the Remus exhaust system fitted on my Mini which is brilliant. Love the sound and big tail pipes!

Having just gone to give her a well earned clean I noticed one of the pipes is black whilst the other is shiny and clean!?!

Is this normal? Surely they should both blacken at the same rate or is this a sign of something more sinister :(

Cheers

If the Remus has a flap on one side that's the problem......similar to the JCW pro exhaust. The flap side exhaust bypasses the muffler so the exhaust quality is different, and discoloration can result. But isn't the sound worth it? LOL!

That would make sense! Phew....

I don't really care about the look it was just a bit of a surprise and had me puzzled.. The sound is awesome and worth every penny :)

What you could do is that after one of the pipes become looking a little "tired", you could just swap the exhaust finishers around so that they will even out otherwise it will look odd to have one shiny and the other one well used.

I've got the Pro exhaust and this confused me at first too. Already given up polishing the chrome to try and even them out - good excuse to drive with the 'flap' open! ooerr!.

I use a very fine wire wool with soapy water on my chrome tailpipes on my MCS to remove the blackened build up. Then a little chrome polish to bring back the shine. Looks great. Use a fine wool though or it will scratch the chrome and don't add too much pressure.
