Doh.....frustrated with dealer

Hi all my Cooper S 5 door arrived last week and it is amazing.....really happy with it.....however I have been left frustrated cos the voice control button on the steering wheel doesn't work! Now from what I can fathom out from the good people who post on here is that I needed enhanced Bluetooth to use it?
I have vis boost and sat nav....but not the XL pack.
If it is the lack of enhanced BT then I am miffed with the dealer who should have explained the possible media/connectivity short comings......after all it was only an xtra £95 OR have I got it completely wrong and am not using it properly?

I also dismissed the arm rest cos the sales person told me it didn't adjust.....I have since found out that it does!!

Besides these 2 minor niggles I am well impressed.......

Do you have an iPhone? If so, make sure it's connected by Bluetooth and hold down the voice button in the same fashion you would hold down the iPhone home button to activate Siri... And voila! Siri will do the same via your car as it would on the phone as normal.
And don't worry about the arm rest. Everything I've seen about it is that it gets in the way of the handbrake and media control so you're best off without it ;)
Check your build sheet (or plug in your VIN here: http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html) and check for option code 6NE or S6NE. That is Enhanced BT. Without it, voice commands, Siri, and some Office functions will not work.
I wouldnt do without my armrest to be honest. Maybe you can retrofit. But wasn't there a car you could test the armrest in?

+1

I had an F56 OneD without the arm rest and then I got Cooper with media and the armrest and trust me it adds such comfort on long drives.

Can't really buy another car without an arm rest..

Again - you don't need enhanced Bluetooth for Siri to work. I categorically do not have enhanced Bluetooth and Siri works fine for me by holding down the voice control button until Siri kicks.
Thanks for the replies.....grateful.
I don't have 6NE listed.
I don't have an iPhone.
I dismissed the arm rest during test drives cos it just got in the way as you say bjblyth but post build I ascertained that it can be adjusted!
My local dealer was great at selling the car but certainly didn't fully comprehend the media functionality options on offer nor did I !!

Mini have made it hard work whereas my bog standard Ford Focus has it as standard.....

Staying positive I love the car and it's a very minor miff!
The arm rests front only flips down if you push the button. But it doesnt totally go down or forth or back. But it also depends on your seat position.

The voice button has more use then siri alone. Siri is long press. But the car it self has voice help to which is for different things.
I think it is difficult when buying new to tick all the options because it adds up quite easily. But doing things afterwards is mostly even more expensive. But you can retrofit armrest as far as i know.

Yes I wouldn't say the arm rest adjusts. It's fully up down or right down nearly on the deck! You're not missing much but I agree some dealers are poor.
I like the arm rest. Wouldn't be without it. When you apply the hand brake it lifts up to clear the handle. Happens in one motion, so it's not like you have to perform two separate operations. I sometimes put it in the full upright position. Usually when I have on a heavy coat or am carrying a 1911 to ease access to the seatbelt latch. It makes the car much more comfortable on long drives. Once you release the brake you just squeeze the front of the rest and it lowers to make access to the iDrive more comfortable.
It's been my experience that most people that don't like a certain option either don't have it or have never tried it. The armrest in my R56 was so bad as to be nonexistent. I changed it out for one of the euro style rests with much better results. It could also be a matter of the driver's size. At 6'4" the rest fits me perfectly. YMMV

I am with ****** on this and the armrest works fine for me and it is big enough to store something smaller than the 1911, albeit not quite as potent!
Works fine for me too I like the extra storage but it's really not what I'd feel I really missed if I lost it. There are lots of other options I'd miss more. (Trying to make him feel better).
Rowister, you could always learn to code or ask someone that knows how to (hint hint) and code Enhanced Bluetooth.
If anyone who knows how to code reads this... Please PM me as I would like enhanced Bluetooth ?
Folks a quick update following my pressing and messing with buttons......I have managed to activate my Samsung A3 android voice app and can now operate the phone via a long press of the voice button on the steering wheel.
There is hope for us android users!!

One man's meat is another man's poison. I HATE the armrest. IMO Mini's look better without it. I had to get it in order to get some options I really wanted. It lives in the straight upright position. That way it doesn't interfere with buckling the seatbelt or using the IDrive. And I think the front looks better with it out of sight. JMO.
