What's more durable vinyl, mylar or foil? Any difference in installation method? Would you recommend mini oem or aftermarket?

Think the mini originals are vinyl. I have mini on mine wife has mini dealer recommended ones and they both so far seem to be equals.

Many dealers have the vinyl work subbed out anyway. Its worth finding out who they use and go direct

Yes I believe the Mini offset bonnet stripes are vinyl, but the Mini sport stripes are listed in their online accessories catalog as foil.
