Well have a good test drive on friday and saturday of the JCW

Exterior Looks

Well its not to everyone's taste at the front end but i like the aggressive look to it and like the no fog lights.
Sits a bit high as all newer cars seem to and needs big wheels to fill those arches, the three quarter on back and front looks good and have to say the White silver Chilli red roof looks the business for me.

Interior Looks and quality

Looks very nice with color line in Red and also those new Alcantara seats firm base and good side bolster support and very comfortable and not to tight for a large frame like mine and 6F 1"
The leather sides looked good and red cloth looked durable and nice touch, loved the alcantara in my e46 BMW and as not on bolster wear should not be an issue.
Well was defo after standard seats till wife saw these and she said need them to set off the very nice interior, it was good not rattles unlike our last mini R56 cooper it had every foam kit mini had still rattled all over the place but we loved the car.
Rest of interior nice touches and big jump in quality from 2nd gen IMHO.

Engine & Noise

Well first drove one with believe it or nut dealer fitted blue tooth activated back box, was fun testing out on test drive but if im honest thought it was a bit to much and on normal mode not load enough and more standard Cooper S just to quiet and refined compared to R56 S.
Well on standard system its a great balance between the two modes and sounds perfect on down shifts and even better than our old motor just perfect balance for me , turbo sounded a lot better than in Cooper S we drove and the wife loved it far better than the F56 S we had out on TD.
Did not feel epic fast and power delivery a bit smooth and i think manual will address this for me,and the auto does suit the car but shifts are not as fast as my BMW 8 speed sport Auto like in M135i and it needs quicker shifts to make it more fun IMHO, but great on rev match down shifts sounds fantastic and addictive.
No drone on m Way and just sounds great and enough sound in cabin.
Well done BMW i think you cant please all but you got it bang on for me anyway.
No noticeable turbo lag and good throttle response but again i felt throttle response could be sharped up further, but i did think my 330d M Sport felt quicker but off course dull compared to this great sounding car.

Handling

Well car had AD's that we would want and i have them on my F31 bmw and i tried them well on bad surfaced roads off and on and made a noticeable difference to noise transmitted into cabin and also removed the sharp edge from any undulations in the road.
Well just remember in on off system only and when in sport i could live with it as daily driver on our poor roads in sport mode , but the extra 20% in standard JCW set up not so sure.
In sport setting on tight twisting B road well i have to say the lateral grip was superb no body roll what so ever and streets ahead of the R56 Cooper S as it cocked its rear wheel at bit and twitchy sometimes but fun.
In my opinion this car could cope with much more as keeping both the rears on the ground gave fantastic grip and confidence so much so like a go kart yes.
Do you need more firmer than AD possibly for track days but then adjustable coil overs would be better to lower center of gravity.
95% will have plenty to spare at 9 tenths for any errors with the AD.

Turn in was great and steering as with all these system loses a we bit of feed back but still felt i knew exactly where i was at , i opted for the quicker rack on the BMW 2.2 turns its great not sure what mini's standard is though.

Well the wife was disappointed with the F56 cooper S compared to her R56 S as she felt it had become to BMW like refined for here and lost the character of old, but she was won over by the JCW she just loved it and the auto box as well great aggressive looks sound and driving experience and no turbo lag and great seats, have to admit i want one a lot more know fantastic car in deed

Hope you enjoyed that and if any questions just ask and i will give my personal opinion and what the better half thought as well

i had my test drive on sunday Derek and have to agree with most of that.

I do have a couple of questions though:

1) it was my first time ever driving an auto with paddle shifters so like the little kid i am, i opted to use them for the duration rather than let the car do the work. Are your gear shift lag points in relation to the above or did you have it on full auto.

2) the exhaust.... can you expand a little? my f56s bangs in sport mode but it is something i definitely feel the car lacks (the noise) i really want to spec a bluetooth exhaust and the more info i have the better for me

Many thanks
1. ok I was bench marking it against my BMW Auto that is the same as in M135i and when on most rapid change setting its no double clutch fast like M cars but still very fast and you feel the surge and instant change but some of that could be the huge torque on 330 d engine I suppose.
I also to a while to get used to get the best out of the paddles in my Beemer as well but I felt I needs to be faster as felt good but and suited the car but all felt just a little to smooth for my liking if im honest.
Would I buy an auto if had no choose yes I think I would but up selling bmw comes to mind and mini has hard core fans they don't want to annoy, but hey I think they are just as good at getting things right as wrong IMHO

2. Well as I said test drove 1 with BT tail pipe and again it was great sounding in sport with the flap open for sure and that is if I worked it correctly lol, and closed it was just to quiet for my liking if im honest and to refined, and ok if it was £500 to £750 for just the tail box then possibly but not 100% I would
Standard sound great to me on quick down shifts and up and for me had bang in the middle sound that was perfect for us and not upset people on the street, being a big kid do I like the flap box of course I do but I just feel the car is exactly what we want as standard all be it more refinement in side and sound proofing does take some away but still great as you aint going to be running all the time with flap open but would be liveable and see the disclaimer as a marketing gimmick if im honest

I forgot to mention this car is fantastic for putting the power down with little to no torque steer unlike the R56 Cooper S torque steer and tyres scrambling for a bit of grip, puts the power down very well and that for some may not be to their liking but if its faster and less tyres then win win for me

I totally agree! But, only based on what my MA told me while he was driving during my test drive session. He has had more time behind the wheel than me for a comparison, especially with the paddle shift 6-speed automatic. I'm a manual trans guy!

All I know is, if you go on a spirited drive with a good driver in a JCW as a passenger, you better take motion sickness pills beforehand!!!...and grab hold of the hand grip above the passenger window! :)

The F56 JCW is an absolute ROCKET!!! I'm sure that 236 ft-lb of torque has something to do with it too!

It's simply awesome!!!

Oh, and it sounds great too!! No need to fool around with aftermarket gimmicks. Stock sound has plenty of grunt without being annoying!

Yes 02 fanatic it's got so much grip , the auto I think is to slow as unlike my BMW that you feel big difference in change speed in different setting, I know no the the mini auto in F56 does Not alter the speed of change in the different modes and that one massive point disappoints me for auto buyers because BMW 8 speed sport auto is fantastic , I know size and ratios a big problem but in a JCW would need far quicker changes in sport, and I suspect the 0-60 times that are quicker launch control could have been used but hey I could be wrong.
But hey the Auto still suits the car but just not for us in second car.

And 100% on the sound I think it's spot on

Hmmm, I also drove the M135i (on German Autobahns). There is a fundamental, technical difference between the M135i's and the JCW's auto transmission. The M135i, like the M3 or M4, is a full dual clutch transmission with lightning fast shifts, as the next gear is already enganged before shifting, whereas the Mini JCW auto is a traditional automatic transmission, no dual-clutch. They are nowhere close in comparison. The M135i's Dual Clutch is amazing and due to it being a dual clutch ways faster in shifting than a traditional automatic transmission.
If the new 2015/16 JCW had a dual clutch option, it would be the way to go for me, although I am a manual transmission fan. The dual clutch combines best of both worlds, but I assume that size and weight of the dual clutch transmission were prohibitive for it to be used in the JCW.

I have the same box as in the M135i the 8 speed sport box and it ain't dual cluth like the M4 & M3 they are 7 speed boxes as have driven it and M5 but the 8 speed sport box as i had confirmed is far quicker than mini auto i test drove for sure.:)

Oh, you are right when it comes to the M3 and M4 :) The M3 and M4 are both 7-speed dual-clutch transmissions (drove the M4 last week through Germany :)). And I was wrong with the M135i being a 8-speed dual-clutch! It is just one of the best 8-speed automatics! But coming back to the F56 JCW, no dual-clutch option there :(, so let's rock the manual! :)

I believe a rumor they are working on the same type box as M135i to go into JCW in future but could all be speculation though.
The 8 speed is the best you will get before you go to Dual clutch that is, the jag's are using that in there cars as well, but dual clutch fantastic cant see that in any JCW if im honest
I still love my Getrag 6-Speed Manual JCW...sorry, I'm not lovin the auto...I prefer having all "3" pedals! :D
