I wanted to also give an update, I am still getting the intermittent error on my 2023 SE. I agree I get it more frequently on my drive to work in daylight than my drive home in more dusk/dark lighting. I did buy my set from VLand on Ebay. It was supposed to have the replaceable reverse bulb but doesn't. @methorian I am curious to know if your set has the built in reverse bulb or the swappable ballast. If it is the built in then maybe they are not the same as the ones with the replaceable bulb and thus different causing the errors.

I also reached out to VLand and they responded on ebay saying they have a "accessory" that will fix the error. I asked for more details but haven't heard back yet. I am also thinking to order the set everyone else bought from Amazon to cross test to see if it is the actual taillight unit causing the error or the car/coding/harness. Fingers crossed one of these will solve the problem, it got pretty annoying this morning driving.

these are the ones I bought, and interestingly the Amazon ad says it supports 2014-2021. They are Vland from the box but the Amazon ad says “Archaic” and to add to what others have asked, mine have LED reverse lights, not incandescent replaceable bulbs.

Anybody else get the “does not fit your MINI Cooper” red flag for any/all of the Chinese F56 lights? I’m guessing because the specs on Amazon are coded “2014-2022” and mine’s a '23.

@Irishmykl Just to confirm are you getting the error?

Curious to see if we poll people with the error based on year, model of car, wires in harness 5/6 and do your lights have the built in reverse lights or not.

I just ordered the A&K lights hoping they might work vs the VLand.

Definitely a plausible theory. FWIW mine (A&K brand) is non-replaceable as well and just sealed off on the back. Keep chugging man, you've shown it can work on yours just something in the chain not wanting to play as nice along the way.

Interestingly enough mine show through 2022 model year.

I never heard if @Irishmykl made any progress on getting the amber flashers to even light up. But I do know he has a 2022 (non-SE) with 6 wire harness.

Ah lol if there were enough of us interested and then taking it on, we could build a little database of the various combinations (ie, year, model, harness type, LED brand, etc). But for now it still looks like just a handful of goers.

So here's my question, has anyone in the U.S. been able to separate the brake and turn lights on the factory UJ lights? I'd love U.K./European lights with the amber turn signals, but I'd be satisfied with just getting my factory all-red UJ lights to function "correctly" (in quotes because I'm of the opinion that brake and turn lights should never be combined). My car is a U.S. 2019 F57 and it came with the UJ lights from the factory.

I think you’d have to bust them open, it’s likely that the boards are bonded. Or worse, it’s one light source feeding fibre optic tubes on both segments.

Hadn't even thought of trying that to be honest! Now you have me curious. If I get time this weekend I'll plug in one of my factory lights and see how it works with the pin swap and coding that I have in there now.

Could not agree more though, I have no clue why it is acceptable to have combined brake and flashers!

EDIT: Went ahead and plugged in a factory light. It functions just as it did stock where the vertical and horizontal T section are your flasher, and also still the brake. Only difference is with the wire and coding changes now if you step on the brake with the turn signal on it flashes super fast and throws an error code haha

Also some of us have concerns about the vertical bars being relatively small as brake lights, and then I follow Tesla M3s down the road, and all their lights are puny. No wonder there are so many Teslas in various states of disrepair sitting behind the high-end body shop near my workplace! Terrible brake and turn signal lights, and drivers who place too much confidence in the cars’ abilities to keep them out of trouble. Bad combination.

No im not getting any errors yet, I still have not gotten the amber turn signal to even work. I did the original coding that Aottley suggested and it kept everything the same except changed the turn signal from the vertical brake light, to the UJ light. So when I turn the UJ flashes, I have left it like that for now till I have a chance to mess with it again.

Pretty sure mine do not have a replaceable reverse light bulb, like yours.

I'm also still getting the error randomly. The lights on/off didn't hold up as I did eventually get the error a few times driving with the lights on. It seems to happen most commonly when "hard braking", either via the brake pedal or aggressive regen. Almost seems as if it happens whenever the actual brake pads are engaged.

So I just received the Amazon set of taillights. I can confirm that the box was different than the VLand. Plugged them in with high hopes but still the same error as before.

So now I will wait to see if the harness adapter they will send will work.

Is BFD aktiv? Or nicht_aktiv? Just spitballing here.

Let’s try setting BFD_R_KALTUEBERWACHUNG and BFD_R_WARMUEBERWACHUNG to Nicht_aktiv and BFD_R_IS_LED to Aktiv (and repeat all three on the Left side).

I’ll have to take a look later this week, but I had simply followed the coding posted in the thread here.
I swapped the pins back and flashed my backup to get error free yesterday since I don’t have a lot of time to fuss with it at the moment.

I received the harnesses today. See pics below, I just installed them and everything seems to be working like before. The real test will be on my drive home from work to see if the error message is gone. One thing to note there are 6 wires total running in the harness and there seems to be what feel like some sort of resistor or board in the middle. Fingers crossed, I feel good that this will solve the problem.
