MINI held a contest called "Final Test Test Drives" and asked fans to design their very own MINI Coopers. The winning design, "DeLux" by Alex Coyle,will head to New York to go on display and support the launch of the new MINI. Her design won the competition by getting the most votes online.

“‘Lux’ is the root meaning of ‘light,’” explains Coyle. “After I went through all the options I had available to customize the car I went for all the bells and whistles and created what I call a ‘Deluxe’ model. The result was ‘DeLux’”.

She may call it DeLux, but I call it 'the TRON MINI'.

Now this is super cool. I noticed more car makers are doing this, getting fans involved and even taking their ideas seriously

Are people going to be able to buy this though, or is it more of a show piece that will do the auto show tour? I'm not sure that many people would really want that as their daily driver, although it does look really cool. Probably more likely to drive it at night than during the day.
@MJCW do you have any other examples of car companies doing things like this? I'm interested.

Very interesting. Cool to see fans getting involved with design. it's a good marketing strategy.
