So I picked the Mini Beast up on Sat 4th and I've now had a few days to bond with it, including a couple of local driving roads and a trip today to Manchester for work (it has to earn its keep) so I thought I'd throw up some initial thoughts, see how they compare with others experiences of the mighty JCW......

The Good
- Just look at the damned thing, its a beast and I love it to bits, so chuffed I went with the White / Red Combo with Black Track Spokes. All of the other red/black bits just compliment it. Orange was a very close second at the time, but had to have a red JCW roof
- Second gear, low torque exits (running it in for the first few hundred miles), yep, you know its going to fly..... Talking of torque, weird pottering around town in 6th???? Bloody ****, hardly need to change gear. Almost 3 litre diesly torque.
- The Pro Exhaust is simply brilliant, makes it sound like it looks and suits it so well, still cant believe a european manufacturer in this day and age is prepared to supply this, good on you BMW/Mini
- The interior (standard JCW, no packs) is really smart, love the JCW Cloth/Alcantara seats, very comfy, keep your arse where its supposed to be and really look the part, been hunting for cheap plastics, cant find anything I'm not happy with
- Harmon Kardon Stereo is right up there, nice bit of punch for everything from 6Music, through Metallica, Red Hot Chilis to Joy Division and The Smiths (well I was bombing around Salford earlier.....)

The Bad
- Mini Connected, Bluetooth etc. and Android is f*****g b*ll***s, Galaxy S6 nearly flown across the drive a few times. Basically doesn't work. iPhone / iPad, perfect, couple of clicks all done all working. No Sotify support on Mini Connected for Android?!?. Its a company phone and everything we do at work is though the Google Cloud so the S6 ain't gonna change sadly (unless I buy my own!) Been and purchased an aux lead before I crash my new car whilst unplugging / plugging back in the USB lead for the 8th time in 50 miles. Gutted, been sold a pup there as the Mini Connected brochures are very very unclear on capability. Bluetooth for phone works fine.

The Surprising
- 240 miles on the M5 and M6, ride absolutely fine, although a bit firmer (obviously) I found it a far less jarring, crunching ride than my old A4 which had lowered sports suspension as it was a TDI-e eco model. I thought it would be one of the biggest compromises as a daily driver.

- 240 miles and get this, 48.7mpg. Its only supposed to do 42mpg and thats the factory figure which (if its anything like Audi) is supposed to be completely fictitious. Old A4 was 65mpg, never got close. Clearly I'm running it in, but that was 20 - 30 miles of M6 stop start traffic, otherwise sticking it to 70 on cruise control, but also a bit of local stuff and the school run this morning!!!!! Wow!!!! I wont bore you with the maths, but at 13p a mile, even with a diet of Super Unleaded, its actually making me money..... enough for a pint, almost two at the cricket club later.....

Like my Nan used to say..... look after the pennies and the pounds will buy you a shiny new JCW.

Made the last bit of the last bit up!

I'm right behind you dgswick. I picked up my JCW (ex-demo) a couple of weeks ago now, but haven't had a chance for a decent run until today, which saw me driving from Cambridgeshire to Coventry for a training course.

I'm fortunate that my car came with just about all the options (except the smoker's pack) which means that I have all the drive aids, leather seats, aircon, sunroof etc and the (deeply addictive) Pro exhaust, which compares to the HK sounds. Like you, I've no squeaks, rattles or similar. The rear camera, sensors and the active cruise control just make all the difference.

I've connected both my current personal and my works phone, which are both Samsung, but not really played with them that much other than reading texts/emails and making/receiving calls which seems to work well, but if Vodafone ever get their act together (which seems unlikely at this point, but is another story altogether) I will be switching the personal phone to an iphone model and will report back on connectivity.

One a busy m6/a14 today with long sections at 50mph and others at....70mph I saw 40+mpg on the trip computer, but the running total is around 37mpg (my daily drive is generally a 12 mile trip each way in to Peterborough) - with which I am very happy.

I qualify all of this by stating that I came out of a 13 plate Jaguar XFS (3.0l d ans 275bhp) and genuinely feel that the Mini wins hands down in so many ways, but especially the looks and the sounds.

48.7 mpg blimey!!! Perhaps I'm running mine in a bit too enthusiastically as only getting at best 34 mpg over my first 900 miles :)

I've had mine just over a month now and absolutely love it and it just seems to get better and better the more time I spend with it.

I'd think if you are getting 48mpg you are not driving it how a JCW is meant to be driven
LOL! My thoughts exactly! I drove mine like I stole it the first day I bought it! It takes some real restraint to drive "softly"! But, you can drive enthusiastically without being crazy hard on your new baby at the same time. I'm still under 700 miles on mine and it gets better all the time! If you don't break into a broad smile when behind the wheel you need to go get checked out!

Oh, you MUST have JCW bonnet stripes on a PW JCW! ;-). But, what do I know I don't have a red roof....love black! They are all great right?

Bloody ****, I struggle to average that in my SD! You'd love the torque of the SD then as its got 40nm more, albeit it doesn't sound as good or pick up pace quite as quick. Love the Pepper White & Chilli Red combo, good choice lad - definitely would be my choice.

OK, so mid-20's on the mpg tonight on some twistys before I got a sodding puncture in the rear left. Screw slap bang in the middle of my P-Zero. Topped up with air and limped home. Do I really want anyone touching my wheels at 6 days old? Hopefully Mini can repair it, think they/BMW do tyres at the local dealer. I would add that to the Bad list, but like the person who invented Android, its not the car's fault.

Decided Pepper White is a sh1te magnet, its filthy already and needs a weekend wash. First time in 17 years I'll actually handwash a car. Kids have bought me a wash mitt (whatever one of those is) for fathers day. Nice touch kids!

Still giggling, hadn't heard that one before!

So far so good, call into Mini, don't worry Mr S, pop it up we'll sort the repair and look after the wheel, no charge. Father-in-law popped over just with foot pump to get me on my way - great, oh hang on, the car has a pump in the boot. Doh!
