Hey guys,

Before I make a complaint and make myself look like a knob... Just thought I'd see what your opinions were on fuel pumps... I filled my car up today on "0" miles of range, therefore it still had approximately 1 gallon of fuel left as reserve.

I filled the tank until the pump clicked and stopped itself, and apparently my 44 litre tank.. that still had approximately 4.5 litres in it, took an extra 45 litres...

I understand you more than likely fill the pipe up as well as the tank but its news to me that a 44 litres tank takes circa 50 litres.

I do have a photo of the pump but PhotoBucket is being a bitch and not letting me upload, I was charged £50.62 for 45.24 litres.

It's hard to tell how much fuel was in the tank when you started filling...it may have had only 1 or 2 litres left in it, in which case 46 or 47 litres total including up the pipe is not out of line really....or the fuel pump was not calibrated properly and you got ripped off!

Haha, I did run out of fuel on my first tank of fuel from delivery... I always run it low so I'm not worried about the dregs. I usually run about 5 or 6 miles on "---" and then fill up, just out of laziness. I managed something like 16 before it actually refused to start two or three weeks after delivery in January. Whoops! BUT don't worry - it won't happen again, I was just used to doing 15 miles or so in my more frugal previous F56 D...

But yeah no, I filled up on 0 today so I guess it would only be a litre or two if I can only manage 16(ish) miles before it chokes. You should know me by now though, sent Tesco an email... lol.

Hi Brandon,
Who are you planning on complaining to?
MINI or the petrol station?

The density of petrol varies according to the temperature, so it makes sense to buy petrol in the cool of a summer?s morning, when you?ll get more bang for your buck.
The difference is extremely small because liquids are not that much affected by thermal expansion

Yesterday i was down to like 20km -50km to go maybe i had roughly 5 liters

Then i poured exactly 40

I used the mini connected app to check how much was in tank

I had 44l

I want to start a new habit of not over filling

Because i want to get an idea of how many kilometers i get for each bar on the gauge

Over filling causes u to go long distance before bars starts going away

I estimated miles per bar on the fuel gauge the other day (you can get bored cruising in green at 65 mph!)
It's about 40 miles per bar for me in my JCW, so that's 320 miles full tank. That's based on average - a degree of playful gas application mixed with Prius challenging motorway trips. It'll do more if I take it easy on the B roads.
