How have I only just noticed this? Fevio (VB+Basic Nav) definitely didn't have it, but Luke (Media XL) does.. so it's either an update or a Media XL thing. Steering wheel controls work, playlists and radio work, you can set repeat and random - great stuff!

PS - Apologies for the quality of the photos, I had to take them with my company blackberry as if you exit on the iphone to camera it disconnects the Spotify link.

You need to manually open the spotify app after connection, and have it connected by USB it seems.

Oh and apologies for the Scherzy - it was an accident... Not that I was singing along to her on the way to work, because i'm a macho macho man and all that :D

Only annoyance is that on the iphone display, the mini logo isn't centred below the spotify logo (yes I have OCD!)

Hopefully it works with android too - for those wanting to try with IOS I am using version 8.1 (latest) on a 5S 16GB. And spotify premium - not sure if that makes a difference

just been out to the car & tried this - awesome! my car's on visual radio & i've had it since july so it's not a car software update. Maybe it's a mini connected app update - it looks like this spotify functionality is coming via connected. Either way my Spotify Premium subscription just became even better value for money - goodbye USB stick!

just seen this on motoringfile.com

Simply download the free Spotify App from the Apple App Store, plug in your iPhone to the MINI Connected system, and then browse the massive musical archive by genre, artist, album and track. You can also check out the latest album artwork on screen and create your own bespoke playlists. No premium service subscription is required for in-car access.

The car must be fitted with the MINI Visual Boost Radio and MINI Connected or the MINI Media Pack. The integration of the App inside the vehicle’s operating system is handled through the customer’s Apple iPhone (minimum of iPhone 4s + iOS7).

Does anybody have issues with static noise whilst using Spotify via Mini Connected. I used to use Deezer for music, back when Spotify wasn't officially supported, never experienced any issues. Now i get alot of hissing noises when listening to music via Spotify.

Also i have never been able to select track by using the steering wheel controls, regardless if i'm using Deezer or Spotify.

There are a few shortcomings of this, having used it for a while:

* if you want to use the mini connected apps, it stops the music (disconnects integration).
* you can't search for songs from phone or car - only play songs in playlists
* some offline songs appear not to display album art - but could be an issue with the app rather than the car as no album art appears on the phone display either.
* you can't list the songs playing and choose another - you need to reopen the playlist from the first song and scroll down

And of course the steering wheel issue

For those with sound quality issues - check spotify's EQ isn't set too bassy... I found that the spotify EQ settings get relayed to the car so can easily distort if both the phone and the car have the bass up high
