I want to change my standard shift knob and gaiter in the F56 2016 Cooper S to this style:
74168

The suppliers keep telling me to fit this instead, which I hate!
74169

Does anyone know if I can fit the part I want to the car, dumb me thinks its just a shift knob, whats not to fit...

If I’m correct, that’s a gear shifter from the manual JCW. Try to look up a JCW from the same year on realoem.com, then you can find the part numbers for it. It should fit to your car

Here it is: 25118618524 The picture is different, but when you go to eBay and type in the part nr, you’ll see that it’s the correct one

You're quite right, that is the one. Thanks for checking the part number for me!
I can see that is the same part number I have requested, so thats good we have the same - two supplying dealers have said this part number is no good for the Cooper S car. I can only suspect the metallic shaft requires a shorter internal linkage to the one I have in the car.

There’s usually a difference between what the dealer says is possible and what is actually possible :D

I guess that if the second knob fits both cars, than the first one should fit yours as well, unless it’s available in 2 different part nrs

I agree, I think there is definitely a difference between what is possible and what the dealer claims - good advice!

Dealers can be useless - I usually ask three and then with a specialist decide for myself. Of course asking here is very important!

I have the JCW long shaft gear shift fitted to my 2014 Cooper, purchased from a dealer in UK even before the manual JCW was avaliable to buy, auto only for the launch.

I had one listed for sale here for a long time that was brand new! Just sold it locally which was convenient. Take a look around I have seen them on eBay quite frequently.

That sounds pretty good, yes Canada would be a little far ;-). Its great parts can be bought and sold for these cars - more than any other I've seen. I have a supplier in Germany who I've asked for a price - I think its about 80EUR brand new from him, but I'll see what I can wrangle!
