As my new little VO bundle of joy has just finished ticking itself cool after the 3 hour drive along the twisty back roads of NW Georgia and NE Alabama from the dealership near Atlanta, I can finally feel my shoulders starting to un-knot. Many questions were answered... a few more remain... but the first impressions are in.
Specs: F56, Volcanic Orange, black bonnet stripes, NAV XL with enhanced Bluetooth & Wired Pack, HUD, Storage Pack, 16in Victory Spoke wheels
Driving was just... outstanding. It's fun again. We were on everything from 3 lane Interstate to state roads to little bitty town & country roads. Lots of curves and elevation changes. It just ate them all up. It's everything I'd hoped it would be.
Answers to a few questions that have come up on the forum in the last 2 months:
- The Burning Question: Where was it built? I flung open the door, looked at the sticker annnnnnnd... it doesn't say. Only by tracking the ship am I able to solidly confirm it was built at Oxford.
- Does it have the side sun visor? Yes. It spat out of the factory in March and it did have the side sun visor. Dealership had heard nothing about some cars in other places having had them deleted.
- What did it think of the Android powered Galaxy S5 phone? So far, they get along just fine. Pairing was very easy. The phone had many questions about what the car was asking it to do... "Hey, this Mini thing wants your texts, you want me to give it access?" and the like. Address book - sucked it right in. Same with my texts. The text to speech function worked great for reading my congratulatory texts from my friends aloud as we drove home. So far, no compatability issues and phone calls worked much better than I expected - good sound quality, excellent reception by the microphones.
- How does the 6 speaker sound system... sound? Bottom line: I was pleasantly surprised - my friend and I agreed it sounded really very good for a stock system. Zero regret for not getting the HK.
- How did the seats feel? Good. Maybe I just missed something along the way, but I expected the sport seats to have a lumbar adjustment. Mine don't. Fortunately, they also didn't need it. Back, very comfy. Seat... as another member mentioned recently, yes, it was kind of pinching my... we'll call it the "upper thigh" on the outside a little and my left leg started feeling a little sore after an hour and a half. Reconfiguring the seat to be a bit more reclined, thigh support extended, steering wheel telescoped out a little more... issue resolved. And that seat padding will mash and soften up a bit more over time.
So far, at least, everything seems to be perfect. And I have to give a big mention to the dealership, Mini of Kennesaw. I was very well treated. Fancy silver Mini Cooper key rings, fancy little folder for my owner's manuals and insurance card/registration, upgraded thick rubber Mini floor mats, shorty antenna, and little "Black Jack" valve stem caps to match my Black Jack side scuttles - all free add-ons they did themselves. Pretty cool.
Hopefully the honeymoon lasts a good long time, but after day one, I'm one happy kid.
