Another option was possibly paintless dent repair and then touch up. Much cheaper but would be more noticeable.

Anyone have any thoughts on clear protective film for the bonnet?

That seems steep for such a relatively small chip and damage, I had similar and got it done by the company donna mentioned, and was only about £300 and was an invisible repair and once done I couldn't see anything and I knew where it had been repaired. I would get a few more estimates before going ahead, good luck and I feel for you and your new car.
