Just recently found this forum. I was looking on MINI2.com for ages for signs of F56 life, having been a member on there probably almost since it started but alas, very little going on.
I bought my first MINI in 2001 about 2 weeks after the launch of the R50. That one did just over 130,00 miles before I sold it - it was still going strong - no clutch or gearbox changes unlike many silly stories i'd heard. It was the least depreciating and most fun car i've ever owned. We did have another 2006 R50 for a while but very regrettably sold it.
Now looking for a car for commuting instead of using the train and hoping to go for a F56 One or ideally Cooper within the next few months. Frustrated the Chilli red has been discontinued unless you have the sport pack (which I'm not keen on anyway). Only two FOC solid colours is a bit poor and seems just another method of extracting more money out of people but hey ho. Will have to go for Blazing red if I get one.
