Found this great forum searching for help for a fix for my wife's 2014 Cooper S, which is due to have its warranty expire this spring. The car runs great and I love driving it (when my wife lets me!), but it has a bad smell that comes into the cabin from the ac system at startup that goes away in less than a minute. It has been in the shop 3 or 4 times for this same problem, but the fix never lasts. They've kept the car for days sometimes, and have said, at least once, that they took out the dash to attempt to fix the problem. Another time there was a several day wait for a cleaning fluid that had to be shipped from Germany. I've lost confidence in the service department and am concerned that the warranty expiration is nearing. But today I found a thread started here by Benamoto about this same exact issue and someone posted a pdf of a Mini technical service repair that I have reposted.

My question is, does this bulletin, which includes photos and specs for the repair, apply to my wife's 2014 Cooper S? And if so, if she takes it to the dealer, is he required to do the repair? I have a hard time believing he is unaware of this fix, and the car was just in the shop last month for this issue. All they did was change the filters and the lovely smell is back already.

If I should have posted this under Benamoto's thread, please let me know and I'll do so.

Thanks for any assistance!

71, Welcome to the forum. The problem is with the Filter/Cabin filter for the A/C/ I had the same smell on my F56 none S and had to bring it to the Dealer twice. The 1st time the dealer followed the SB but the smell was not completely gone so the 2nd time they fixed it correctly. It is not a big big repair (took my dealer 1 hour) if it smells bring it in. Since I had it fixed the 2nd time around all is fine no more smells and my A/C runs pretty much 365 days here in Arizona. The dealer explained it to me that way. The Filter got wet by splashing water and mold got a hold off it. Like I said a very easy fix. It happen to some of the F55/56 "S" and none S models and yes your dealer will fix it. Just complain about the smell and that you aware of the SB to have the problem corrected. Good Luck and keep us posted.

My 2015 was at the dealer for this in September and the issue was fixed. The service receipt cited the SI M64 02 14 number at the top of your attachment and the steps taken to fix it. So yes, I would say this applies to your problem. Print it off and take it to your dealer or if you have another dealer in your area take your car there if are unhappy with their service. If the dealership won't do it for some reason take the issue right to MINI. Not sure where you are located but if you're in the US I would raise the issue with MINI USA if your dealer gives you any grief.

Keep us posted on the outcome.

Welcome along :)

It never ceases to amaze me how dealerships use "I was unaware of that" or "I've never heard of that problem"...

I'm sure there must be a central database of issues that a dealer can tap into I just think they can't be bothered!

I hope you get it sorted ok :)
