Not to encourage dangerous behavior or hooliganism, I'm curious who here has taken their f56s to excessive, illegal speeds, and what observations you have made on its handling and road feel, besides the presumed sheer exhilaration. Although we now live in a cop-infested, nannycam world, there are those special spots or times when some of us may have an opportunty to "open it up" as we used to say in the days of V8 Detroit-built gas guzzlers.

Myself, I've only got up to the low 80s but then I haven't had a chance yet to get out on a remote open highway. Can't wait to see how Hal does purring at 100mph or beyond!

Here in Qatar, they have a 5km race track that MotoGP races on. Throughout the year they open it up for track nights, so I am planning to go out one night later this year, and open her up for some speed camera free driving fun.

They also have quarter mile track here that does the same thing, so I might give that a whirl too.

I'd love to see some pics from racing your Mini on that track!!

Had mine up to 80 mph the other day on the freeway. Had to stay in the slow lane to keep from getting run over by the Hummers.

Most of my fun happens at 45 mph or below. I think 80 is probably the fastest I'll drive the car. But agree that it feels solid and planted at speed. Another great road car.

Haven't driven mine yet since I wont collect it until this sunday, but on the testdrive I could only get it to about 100mp/h due to traffic. But the Mini isn't a straightspeed performance car, it's about the handling imo.

My Cooper is still being run it but even so it feels far too easy to break the limit. Not that I ever would but, 70 mph feels slow and blissfully quiet.Thank heavens for the limiter.

Here in the uk people talking about speeding on forums have been known to later appear in court!

its far too easy to get the MCS over the hundred mark, especially in the auto when you're not changing up the gears. I agree it feels very solid
Hat, I couldn't agree more. car feels very solid to me and it is very easy to exceed 100mph with auto. what really puts smile on my face is the curves and how this baby feels on them. very surefooted that leaves you smiling:laugh:

pjsjr, care to elaborate just where in Jersey you could get up to those fine speeds without getting arrested? I'm from Philly so know a little bit about the Garden State. I'm gonna assume NOT the interstate.
Route 195. I make the drive everyday to work. Early in the morning it's a good road. Added benefit my office is located in front of the state police barracks. That helps;)

Just today I took it to 170 kph. Very briefly in a sprint from 110 to pass a trouble situation. Solid and well sorted out the car hit this speed quickly without me noticing how fast. Just as fast I brought it down to 110 in order to save my license. One day I will get on a track and see what I can get out of the car.

Still running mine in so far i have only taken it up to 160kph as per the manual. and it feels really solid at that speed, i didn't realize i was doing that until my speed warning shouted at me. but i agree with whats been said before the mini is not all about straight line, its all about the corners. took and interchange at 120Kph and i freaked out, but my MCS was cool calm and collected.

Fabulous, glad some countries are stillenlightened . Here in the uk I'm very jealous. There was talk of increasing uk motorwayspeeds to 80 mph but they chickened out.

I've set my speed warning to 98mph, but as a word of warning the speedometer (in my F56 at least) is the most accurate that I've come across so the olden days of an indicated 100mph only meaning 95mph have passed....

You don't need the auto to accidentally gain speed; the MCS manual is surprisingly strong between 80 and 100mph in sixth gear easily maintaining pace with plenty of cars in kick down.

The great thing is that sixth pulls cleanly and quickly from under 30mph too...
