Hi everyone,

Thought I would check & try downloading the latest software for my new MCS, built March 2014.

I went to the mini software website & chose the option to download software.

1st Question: it doesn't ask for VIN number or model, so is there just one standard generic software for all Mini's no matter what spec you have?

2nd Question: can you download the software from a Mac?

I downloaded the software from the website and transferred that to a USB stick. I plugged that into my mini and chose software update but it says no USB or software can be found.

I have HUD, media pack XL, satnav, and enhanced Bluetooth.

Nerd perspective

Just a general observation (as a Software Engineer)-- Be very careful about updating your MINI in this fashion.

I never install the latest update for any of my devices, unless there's a security issue. The reason is I have found over the years that occasionally the developers screw up and you get a bad update. People have bricked their phones, for example, with dodgy updates. I don't necessarily think that a bad update will brick your MINI, but the thing is a crazy bundle of interconnected computers, far more complex than a phone.

I always wait until an update has been out in the wild for long enough that any glitches surface, before I install it on a device. Often that means waiting for the following update to be published (so yes, I do tend to run a version behind on all my devices).

Especially if the update site does not provide a way to enter your VIN, I would be very careful about installing updates. The last thing you want to do is brick your MINI. Better safe than sorry.

Also, don't go to MINI of North Korea for your software update. Just sayin'

Hi again,

Still cant do it !

Ive downloaded the software from my Mac (UPD05062) to a USB stick. I plug in the USB stick into my Mini & goto software update ........ All i get is.....

'No USB device with software connected to the USB audio interface'

It does recognise the USB stick because if i go to media it sees my music on there. Ive tried deleting all the music and just leaving the new software but still get the same message.

What am i doing wrong ??????

Strange....
I would use the Mac Disk Utility to "format" the USB drive and be sure to choose the "FAT32" option. Then copy the UPD05062.bin file back onto the stick.

I tried to update my current software today:

MN-002.026.003
TN-002.026.003

to a newer version. I tried both methods, the UPD01006.bin file from the MINI Connectivity page and UPD05062.bin from the BMW site. I used my VIN on the BMW site.

I used a FAT32 formatted USB stick and copied 1 of the .bin files to the stick.
When I try to update I get an error, it says that the software on the USB device is not compatible with my MINI. I got the same error with both files.

Could it be a problem that I used a iMac to download the bin file and format de USB to MSDOS (FAT32) and copy the file?

Does anyone know what the actual updates are ?
The website I downloaded the update from gave a summary of the updates in the download. ( it is the BMW site mentioned earlier)

I downloaded it using Windows 7, 64bit, put the .bin file onto a FAT32 USB stick, inserted the stick and activated the "update software" option.

It then asked me to start the engine but as soon as I pressed the clutch the update started and completed successfully without the engine needing to be started. And that was it.

Drama free, really.

My MINI S was built 8/2014 and has software
Media MV-010.12.001
Phone TV-010.12.001

I went to the website, put in my details and got the message that was up to date, any idea why or is there anything else i can do to get the latest update.

Don't use the software update from the MINI Connectivity site, it is dated Jan 2013. Use the BMW site.

So the latest update file from Dec 2014 showed up on the Mini Connectivity page (http://www.mini.com/connectivity/) So i decided to give it a go, since i have had some issues with Mini Connected and Spotify.

I put the bin file on my 16gb usb drive formatted with FAT32 and 8192 bytes allocation unit size. All i get when i press the Update button is the error message "Update file on USB device is defective." Has anybody been able to get around this??

Hi Mjay.

This happened to me too. Tried it first with download from MAC, didn't work. Tried it again with download from Windows, didn't work right away but eventually did after reinserting the USB 3x. The first 2x I got an invalid message. 3rd time was a charm.
