So I've been a Beemer driver for quite some time, having various 1s, 3s and a Z4 for a while. Most have been company cars, the Z4 was mine though. I once had a Mini Cooper D as a temp car from a company I worked for and I admit, the handling was fun but the interior and build felt pretty chintzy to me. Enough that, even though I enjoyed driving it, I could never justify spending money on one.

Fast forward to now and a mate of mine got himself a F56 Cooper S and yeah, I'm now feeling the Beemer influence. The quality, engine/gearbox feel, the seats and the trim feel all come together in a package I actually want to buy.

I went to a dealer, drove a nice regular Cooper. Why not the S? I like the idea of the 3 cylinder engine (the cut in half straight 6), less weight, better handling and it's still got plenty of poke. I mean, my last 3 was a 320i ED with 170hp, which was 0-100 in 7.6, now I'll have 136hp, but only down to 7.9. Naturally its the weight, which is also very appealing cause if I am honest, I've always loved/wanted small/nimble/fast cars.

What did I order?

F56 Cooper
British Racing Green
White Roof/mirrors
Black bonnet stripes
Victory Spoke black 16" (go comfort!)
Sport Seats
Black Pearl/Carbon Black Cloth/Leatherette
Chili
Wired (so navi prof and enhanced BT)
Dynamic Dampers
Harman Kardon
HUD
Visibility Pack
Black inside roof
Piano black bits
LED lights
JCW Wheel/Gear shifter (shifter is from the dealer)
Auto airco
Rain/light sensors
Driving modes
Cruise Control
Alarm

That's the highlights, probably other things that are part of those packets

Got E4.5k off from my dealer, so I was pretty pleased with that and now the agony of waiting.

Pretty much, I mean I checked out a 3 door 1 series, decked out how I'd like it. Of course there is a difference with the RWD, but it's not like the Mini drives bad. It drives REALLY well, just different.

Size is also a factor, but for me the smaller size is a plus.

Then you get to the cost. Compared to what I was looking at with a 1 series, yeah, the Mini nailed it.

Plus, it's more fun. So, cheaper, as fun (maybe more so) to drive and the familiar BMW feel. No brainier.

Sounds a great spec; i did exactly the same-but went from a cooper s (r56) to a cooper f56 and still never get sick of hearing that 3 cylinder warble , esp over the redline and it feels even quicker than the stated 0-60 . its super smooth super torquey and as you can tell i am in love with it; economical if you want it to be (!) too! Theres a teeny gap ie i think the gearing a bit too long between 3 and 4th but it's superb!

So I kept thinking about the 17" wheels, went back to the dealer, test drove 16 and 17 back to back (same suspension) and yeah, swapped to the 17" black cosmos.

Also heard the planned build is week 8 with delivery either week 9 or 10. Badass. One benefit of living in NL :)

So it finally rocked up. About bloody time.

Quite pleased with how it turned out and right away, got a nice trip planned. From NL, down to the Black Forest in Germany, across to France, back through Germany and back to NL. All in 4 days.

Why waste time. Super bloody excited.
