I've been wondering about some of the reviews too. My experience coming from a moderately modded R52 Cabrio is much more positive. IMO, the Clubman drives smaller than it is. It is quieter in the cabin so you don't get all that "I'm going fast" noise feedback but I really have to watch it in town and I have much more acceleration in 6th gear on the freeway. I can toss it around too if so inclined. I'm still trying to keep it low key for another few hundred miles for the break-in so I haven't really pushed the braking/acceleration yet. But it feels like a MINI to me. Daughter who drives a R56 S thinks so too.

My thoughts exactly ,great handling great ride and very refined while still feeling mini! Only when i look in the mirror do i get a sudden, gosh it is longer!

The repeated'barn door bar restricts rear visibility' comment annoys me too .a bar down the centre mmmm seen far worse try a citroen ds5 for eg and you simply look either side,no big deal at all and i much prefer the way they open to a hatch.

I agree! I get tired of reading negatives about the rear doors. This sort of thing is what makes MINI special! Remember the 1963 Corvette split window coup? They dropped the split window in 1964 & now guess which model everyone wants! But, that was for style, the Clubman is about function/practicality!

This JCW Clubman is a really cool car & the extra length means it will be easier to put on a lift! lol!

Out of interest, have you driven with the DSC (Traction Control) switched off, and if so what's it like ?

I ask because as it's FWD as standard, I wonder if you have felt the rears kick in at all yet...

I now have my order number and it looks like the build date is last week of Feb....

Haven't switched off the DSC yet so don't know. But I'll give it a try and let you know. A road with decent curves and little traffic is rarity here especially during tourist season. Thanks to the snowbirds, I can tell you the JCW brakes are effective.

Did you happen to drive the Cooper S as well when you purchased? Does the ride seem notably more harsh in the JCW and do you have the adaptive dampers?

Trying to decide between a Cooper S ALL4 and a JCW, but need to drive both.

I have the sports suspension. Only spent limited time with the S but my impression is that the sports suspension is notably more firm. You can feel the road imperfections but it is not nearly as harsh as my R52 or R56 with standard suspension and no runflats. Handles very well.

@cursingmonk,

Couple of questions for you, as I didn't check.....

Do you have a folding armrest in the rear seat?

Is there anywhere to hang a jacket in the rear seating area?

I'm not sure if I need to find some kind of coat hangers to hang my suit jacket. The coat hooks in the rear passenger compartment of the F56 are useless.

I believe there is a coat hook in the back, like the other MINIs, though if that doesn't do it for you, you can always do one of these:

Yes there is coat hooks by the "oh ****" handles above the windows of the rear seats.

I have the split rear seats with the armrest. I really don't think the "middle seat" is that functional except maybe in an emergency. The fold down armrest has two cup holders which is nice.

That's great, thank you.

The JCW is now on the configurator in the UK.. I've just configured "my" car, and the list price is over £2k more than my contract price. Plus I've got them painting the wheels gloss black also. When you consider the price, plus the P/X value they gave me I'm quite pleased...

Sounds like a great deal. I think you are going to be very pleased.

On another note, I wish to apologize for using the term "oh ****" handles. That is the term we used where I grew up; "you can take the boy out of the Midwest but not the Midwest out of the boy." I should have used the proper term "manual rear passenger lateral movement stabilization safety feature."
