When my new JCW arrived two weeks ago my MA pointed out to me that "both" JCW door sill plates had flaking paint....I like to say the paint "lifted" off the aluminum plating. Now, this likely occurred when the protective covering was removed from the sill plates. Was this damage due to something at the factory, in transit, or at the dealer? I'll never know......but I am having them replaced. My dealer sales people were excellent about making sure this was corrected. These things happen of course. But, I'm curious if any other JCW owners, or any MCS owners with the JCW trim package, have had this problem on their new F56?

Hey John I have the JCW interior in my MCS and my black sills are still flawless to date.

Just checked, all ok here. Not going to get the illuminated PRO ones while you're at it? (Actually, do they do them for the F56??)

Here are a few pics of the damaged areas.....they don't really show everything...in a few small areas the black paint is wrinkled..."lifted". This is obviously very disturbing to me. We'll see how the replacements goes. I'm tempted to demand that I observe the repair work personally! It's just weird....have you ever gotten the feeling that something "only happens to you?"

Just checked this morning, and both doors are clear underneath. Maybe there was a protective covering on the door bottoms during transport? I don't know.

That's a sickening thought! To think I wanted to detail my own car (which I did)...but I didn't do anything on the interior. I hate to think some kid at the dealer did this...unthinkable!

Not that I know of..."if" something happened that someone is aware of, I'll never be told! :-(


I gave instructions to simply remove the seat coverings and tidy up the interior but to NOT detail the car, as I was doing that myself. I was afraid to have the dealer leave all the protective coverings on (inside and out) so they could inspect for any damage before I picked up the car.

Poor quality of a part on one side I could accept, not on both. This has been scraped.

Mine are fine. There is a translucent blue tape that is applied at the factory and removed by the dealer. Looks like it was damaged during the removal process.

My MINI dealer installed new JCW Door Sill Plates today and the tech did a fine job.

I'd be interesting in hearing from anyone else who experienced this issue....very strange. I wonder if MINI powder coated these plates if the painted surfaces would be more resistant to damage?

Anyway, my little guy is smiling & all is well! I'm up over 200 miles now! LOL!

I'd probably simply touch it up with a black magic marker or something. Seeing this old thread makes me sick remembering how upset I was with both of my sills damaged when my JCW was brand new.....obviously just bad luck!
