Continental Contacts non RFT are unbelievable. I have the 205/45 R17's & the dry grip is absolutely amazing and they behave well in the wet. No comparison to the RFT performance tires that the car came with. Continental Contact is like glue on high speed turns. RFT's would tend to front scrub (understeer) as they are perhaps too firm.

I am looking for Winter tires and considering the Pirelli Sottozero III..... so interested in any tire (tyre) comments....

Are all the UK JCW's coming with the same tyres as I know with BMW have a few different suppliers, seems I seen on other sites the Pirelli tyres were not that grippy on some reviews as well, I was hopping for conti but will get what I get for sure.

So far, I really haven't noticed. I've always loved Pirelli's....my first BMW came with P6's...now the JCW comes with P7's...too cool! I love the look personally, but I haven't driven enough to really feel any difference in grip....so far they seem fine to me though. I have heard the Pirelli All-Seasons are crap though. These summer tires seem fine. I am going to be faced with what to do when cold weather comes, because I don't want to park my JCW all winter...no snow though...the Jeep will do duty when that happens! :)

Michelin Pilot All-Season in 205/40/18 is about the only high performance all-season tire that fits the 18" JCW Cup Spoke Wheel.

Totally agree.....I think that's the payoff with a harder sidewall. Will probably be worse in the wet weather too.
Summed up well by GOGOBIG.
Hmmm, consensus here, however!

The RFT's on the R56 were pretty good, pretty sure they were Dunlops. I will have a scoot through old receipts. Problem is, Mrs H pretty much insists on runflats, as she was "rescued" by them in the past.

Bridgestones and Dunlops are available in RFT, maybe I'll get some of them while I can still flog off the Pirellis for good money. Shame as Yokohama's are available in "normal" and they, as a rule, are awesome...

Ok, I'm getting old & I have a bad back, but I really don't think the 18" run flats are that harsh. I quite like mine actually. Sure, you need to keep an eye out for rough pavement & potholes, but who doesn't do that anyway? Come on, surely you guys aren't a bunch of wimps! This can't be the first sports car you've owned. Seriously, they aren't bad at all imo...and they DO corner well! Now, "GO DRIVE"!

Nice topic!

I have a Cooper S with P7 cinturato [on Cone Spoke 18"] like your JCW...Since the beginning I noticed that the tyres weren't so good :(
Too noisy on bad roads (here in Italy bad roads are the "standard" :D) and with a very low grip on wet :(
On dry, they have a good grip but the limit goes too early, so they start screaming :D
Moreover, I noticed that over 200 km/h the noisy is very annoying and the wheel, under my hands, hasn't a good feedback...I feel like the wheels would be squared :D, not round...it's a bad feeling that, I'm sure, is caused by the "fantastic" Pirelli P7 Cinturato.

So, when I change, I think I'll mount the Dunlop Sport maxx rf that should be better than P7 Cinturato, and then, if they will not satisfy me, I'll mount the Michelin Pilot Super Sport that are the top at the moment. I mounted it on Scirocco R and they were fantastic!

Thanks Tony,

Exactly my feelings. Risky for you though, being Italian and criticising Pirelli :) (Remember the shouting when Ferrari sold the F430 with Bridgestones!!?)

Ours has the Dunlop sportmaxx as well to early to say as I find the first 1000miles needs passing to get best feel for them but they did seem to lack cutting edge on going into a corner a bit hot on way up the road just felt rear grip was slightly lacking but could just be pressures and as brand new tyres will wait and see.
