Does anybody know why lapis luxury Blue is 1K while the rest of the Colors is only $ 500.00? I ask my Dealer and they do not have an answer. Maybe Mini charges $ 500.00 more because of the word luxury is in the Color Name. I know it is somewhat a silly question but a curios mind wants too know.

Got to be a marketing ploy. BMW are good at selling you something that costs them no extra at extra cost. For example anthracite headlining or clear indicator lenses where you pay extra for the same thing in a different colour.

Lapis Luxury blue would make your car very distinctive because there are not many cars around as hardly anyone would pay twice the price for the same metallic paint. Conversely BMW marketed Blazing Red and Moonwalk Grey metallics at a cheaper price initially before putting the price up.

I think opal nailed it...all about "marketing". MINI obviously was pushing the colors that were standard (without extra cost)...such as Pepper White & Volcanic Orange...also non-metallic?

They charge more for the metallic paints correct? I'm not certain all other colors are metallic.

It makes "zero" sense to me why they charge more for Lapis. Maybe it's just more rare and it's more trouble for them to change out the color jars! LOL! Blue has always been one of my favorite colors.

It's a limited color, like Rebel Green for the JCW. You can argue they charge more to make it seem more exclusive, or perhaps it makes business sense since it won't be on as many cars and it makes sense on an economy of scale sense. I guess only the guys at BMW corporate know for sure.

Either way, I saw it in person the other day in the showroom and it is a GORGEOUS color!

It's fun building a car online, but it would be soooo much better seeing EVERY color on a MINI at a dealer before placing an order. My bet is at least 40 to 50% of buyers would change their mind and switch to another color!!

^^^that's mct's car. Pretty cool for him to go all-out and rock a theme.

Lapis the paint color actually has crushed Lapis lazuli stone in it, at least according to the MINIUSA website here: http://www.miniusa.com/content/miniusa/en/model/hardtop/hardtop-mini-yours.html

As for the price for the color, just like Rebel Green, I agree it's more along the lines of "what the market shall bear" than perhaps the strict cost of the pigment.

I have to say it sure is a nice color and the superman mini is different. Kinda cool and I bet the car get,s plenty of attention. Thank you for all the input. Honestly I felt kinda stupid to ask the question but as always the members here had some great answers. :)

Pretty sure mct's Cooper S is actually Dark Blue Metallic, but any blue/red combo is cool;) Certainly looks great now with the red wheels.
To be honest I don't mind paying a bit extra for something different. Some manufacturers even charge extra for white and Abarth charge £900 for two tone paintwork even in non-metallic.

I think it may also have something to do with the fact that Lapis blue is the closest thing to the ever classic BMW blue that we love. Maybe they charge more if people want to keep it in the BMW line.

That's just my $.02
