Hi All,

Slightly obtuse question but hopefully someone has some advice from those in the UK.

We have an F54 Clubman on PCP which we have the MINI servicing pack (not TLC) - it’s likely we’ll either ‘trade up’ or hand this back at the appropriate time. For this car the servicing plan works reasonably well.

In the meantime we have ordered a new F56 Cooper LCI 2 to be a long-term second car (i.e. we are not aiming to hand this back and keep for 5+ years).

I’m keen to get others advice in terms of how they would service this car - our options are the following:
  • Local MINI garage (I’d probably do the service plan), I like the benefit of a loan car/pick-up / drop-off.
  • Express garage (Halfords / Kwik-Fit / National)
  • Local independent

We don’t have a local MINI specialist, other than the main dealer, so that limits options.

I’m keen to get some views as the best option.

Thanks

Dylan

I guess this depends on a few factors. How comfortable are you doing work on the car yourself (and do you have the space to do the work). Do you want to invest in your local Mini dealer to make sure they are still in business in a few years time. Do you want to get the work done at a lower cost than a main dealer by using an independent garage. There are lots of other things that will help you make a personal choice.

I like our local Mini dealer and have quite a good relationship with them. My sister has always used the same independent to service all of her cars (not Minis) and has a trust relationship with them.

I guess the plus side of having the choices is there is a solution that will fit each type of owner, the down side might be too much choice :)

The dealer who supplied my F54 is miles away. Nevertheless I drove past quite a few MINI dealerships to show loyalty by returning there whilst the car was under warranty. Did I feel valued? no, not really. Since then I've used a (very) local independent BMW specialist who has invested in key reading equipment, official diagnostic tools and full access to the BMW database enabling on-board servicing history to be maintained just like a MINI main dealer. There's no chrome n' glass; no "free" coffee and none of that "Sir" stuff (as in "oh they all do that, Sir", or "our complimentary visual healthcheck shows that you need another £xxx of work doing, Sir"). Job prices are between 30 and 40% less than main dealer to date and I haven't been presented with a bill containing a £30 surcharge for plugging-in the car for a so-called "standard scope"!.
Works for me...

Hi Volcanicf54 and apologies for bumping a old post (to new to send a PM) I’m in need of a good specialist and was hoping you lived in the midlands area and would share the name of the garage you use, by PM if you prefer, grateful for your help, Thanks

To follow this up I got a price from main dealer. After a certain age ours do a cherished older car price and I thought it very reasonable. So I stuck with main dealer. They're also v reasonable for an MOT.

If you want the service history to be recorded on the BMW/MINI system and the car then its an authorised dealer, unless you can find another garage that has invested in the equipment to do this.

Like Jeremy, I enquired at my local MINI dealer and my F56 was eligible for Cherished pricing and the quote was reasonable I thought.
