I'm considering buying a set of the OEM LED lights to replace the standard halagon ones.

As I understand it the lights have a number of functions which need to set up. Does this have to be done by a main dealer?

I spoke to an independent garage and they didn't want to know!

It doesn't look like a simple swap over job so don't really want to get stung on a fitting cost by Mini.

Has anyone managed to replace the lights without dealer assistance?

Hey,

I had my fogs replaced with the led ones. Yes you have to code them once they are fitted. If I remember correctly one youtube member had commented on my video asking the same as he already had fitted them lights and then he had to go to the dealer for the coding..

I am sure you can fit them and let dealer do the coading...

I have the standard halogen lights however I have replaced the bulbs with osram night breaker and they go well together.

Moreover, you dont get xenons headlights any more. Either standard halogens or LEDs..

Hope all goes well with your headlight replacement Unkle Paulie! Keep us updated on how it goes and what it costs. I'm itching to do it as well but figured going through the dealer would be way too cost prohibitive.

alpha, I have now spoken to a couple of Mini independent specialists and non of them will do the installation. They have said that if it is done incorrectly it would void the cars warranty. Also as the lights need to be coded (which can only be done by a main dealer?) I have been advised to go through the main dealer. As a consequence its looking unlikely which is a shame... I will call a my local main dealer to see what the cost would be for the install assuming they will oblige!

Much bigger job than you think. Wiring looms are specific so that won't be plug and play.then they need coding. Complicated stuff . Good luck.

Not to mention the LED lights run on an auto-leveling system so they level properly and not blind oncoming traffic and I believe the leveling sensors are found in the rear of the car. Halogen equipped MINIs do not have these so if you're retrofitting and want to do it properly, these have to be put in as well. It's definitely not as easy as a straight swap which is why no one has done it yet. Probably not impossible, but you would need to spend the time, patience, and of course, the money! ;)

I'm actually contemplating switching to the OSRAM bulbs too! Did you like them? I do a lot of night driving, and I was wondering if they are worth switching to. :)

I would highly recommend Osram Night breakers

1. Blubs are much brighter as compared to the OEMs
2. They have a little white tint to them
3. They makes the car look smatter

You need to order the H4 version, also make sure they are the latest Unlimited version too so the full name is Osram Night Breaker Unlimited H4.
