This is so close to April fools day it’s almost hard to believe. According to Evo Magazine MINI will build a track-focused version of its latest F56 JCW model to be badged as the MINI John Cooper Works Challenge model.

According to Evo, the magazines staffers the, selves will be involved in the development process of the car along with the normal engineering staff at BMW.

Sadly the JCWc (sounds good we think) will be a UK only model and produced in very low numbers. It’s supposedly set to hit dealers in June of this year.

The JCWc will feature an adjustable suspension, updated tires and larger brakes similar to the R56 GP along with aggressive styling tweaks.

According to EVO, “This project was formed by a small group of enthusiasts at Mini Plant Oxford and Mini UK wanting to bring some of the experience from the Mini Challenge to our production John Cooper Works model” said Nicolas Griebner, Head of Product for Mini UK.

“This new car will cater to the growing number of customers looking for an even more focused John Cooper Works model without losing any of the practicality of a vehicle they can use on the road every day.”

Why go to the trouble of producing a car in such limited numbers for a single market? It could be a precursor to a GP version meant for global markets or a proof of concept for something else entirely. Or it could be an early and horribly misplaced April Fools Day . Assuming it’s not a prank, we’ll have more shortly.

MINI needs to do something to regain respect for their race track provenance! The IMSA rules are crushing the JCW MINI team in the Continental Tire Challenge here in the USA. IMSA won't even let the team run the JCW Brembo brakes. I'm tired of getting beat badly every race! Grrrrrr. This F56 JCW has so much potential I'm all for cranking it up a few notches and letting this little lion ROAR!

This was an interesting article and seems to indicate the car is the precursor to the GP. The track focused JCW may be a more popular model than the GP if they will market it world wide rather than just in Great Britain. I might consider it rather than the GP as the GP traditionally has not interested me as I/we track the mini occasionally, but drive it on the street regularly plus I/we like the back seat. I am not of fan of the gray color either. However, I wonder what it will offer that the ones of us that have tweaked our minis have not already done? Still it does make for some interesting speculation and conversation, therefore is a good marketing ploy for mini! Maybe the will offer a nitrous injection system hidden in the no longer used secret compartment!
