Let the petrol vs diesel wars begin! See the attached photo from my petrol S. To be fair this was at constant speed on cruise control.... :)

mine needs more miles than the 400 she's done so far,at mo engines tighter than my wallets opening ;-)
I was torn between the 1.5 petrol and the Sd but on test drive didn't really like the gearbox on the petrol as have to have an auto, on the SD it is much better, think I probably would get more MPG out of the 1.5 on the majority of my trips, it is only when you get a decent trip out that the diesel gives great MPG, Having had diesel company cars for the last 15 years I am just used to how they drive, The SD rarely needs to go over 3000rpm pulls like a train very pleased.
My previous 2013 X1 2.0D Xdrive which was a big beast of a car compared to the mini was returning 53mpg all the time, same engine I think but better MPG very odd.
Now that's impressive lawro.
Yes agree tandberg needs some miles on and as you Say comparisons tricky due length journey style of driving etc. Warmer weather will help.
Here we go :) To keep it simple. It's physically impossible to get more mile per gallon out of a petrol than it is a diesel IF they are driven in the same manner. A quickly driven Diesel will muller a quickly driven petrol in the MPG stakes period.

Of course it will. Yes I can achieve 60mpg, but it's not difficult to get less than 30mpg either. Probably could get less than 20mpg without too much effort :)

This was a trip today. 2 miles in small town 6 miles twisty B roads 9 miles A roads then 2 miles of City driving.
The car was hot and moving when I reset trip. Also worthy of note is average speed 35.4. This was a steady drive not going over 60 mph and one traffic light race ;) the car is Automatic (sports) and it was in Eco mode except for the traff light race.

Good score! Was it with an Sd?

Oh but the petrol engine sounds so good, thats why I bought it. Not interested really in economy, I don't the really care.for that I ride my Honda cg125. 85 mpg.thrashed to the limit(60mph max!!!) but it is interesting to see what they all do and t h e differences.

Amazing what you can do if you try hard. But boy is it boring
Did 50 mpg on my first 500miles.
16"
Manual gearbox.

I can feel the car is not broken in yet everything is still a little stiff.
I'm guessing this car will do way better if u really want you can get close to official figures.
