When my R56 blew up, the dealer gave me an F56 loaner. When I parked it in my garage, it seemed... bloated. I was very aware of the extra space the car took up compared to the prior occupant (probably due to the cramped space).

Throughout the eager research, excited ordering, interminable waiting, ecstatic delivery, and joyful first few months of ownership, I never failed to notice that the car was bigger than my R56. It didn't bother me, but it was a little pinging inside my brain.

Today, coming out of the store, I walked across the parking lot (1/2 mile away as per Random Internet Yahoo Parking Guidelines) and as always fondly gazed upon my eager little VO buddy behaving itself in the parking space. And for the first time, I didn't think the car was bigger. In fact, it was just the right size. And being darned cute about it.

Interesting. Now I look at it and cannot convince myself that it's bigger; it looks just right.

Uke, I can not park that darn F56 straight in the Garage or between the Lines in a Parking Spot because I can not see the Fenders. It takes me 3 tries to park it straight in the Garage too close to the left I can not get out too close to the right the G/F can not get in her Car and we have an old School Garage with plenty of Room. Hard to believe I drive a Semi and can park that 75+ Ft Thing any place. Maybe it did get bigger.;):D

I hung a small metal ring on a string, at eye level, to assist my parking with the R56. It's still there. When the ring hits the windshield -- clink! -- I stop. The parallax of the ring versus miscellaneous crap stacked on the back wall helps me line up.

So I don't have that issue. I have an Instrument Landing System of sorts. But I can see your point. Lacking visual clues, your Muscle Memory, as it were, guides the parking. and the memory model doesn't match the physical space.

Interesting.
