I was really looking forward to our new 2015 Cooper S 3 door. When we took delivery, we left the car lot, and 600 metres down the street, all of the warning lights turned on. I turned back thinking it was a loose sensor, but no, it seems there was moisture in the oil pump, it needs to be replaced.

My question is, what would you do? The car has 30 kms, and I drove less than 1.5 kms. Should I let the dealer replace the oil pump, or dig in and push for a different car?

Wow sorry to hear about your bad day that really stinks. :crying::crying: Did you special order your car or did you just drive it of the lot?. If you special ordered it you might have a hard time to find the same specs. if you just walked in and said i take this one make the Dealer replace it.

I think it depends if any damage was done and how long you intend to keep the car.

It's unlikely the dealer knew of the issue because it would have soon been obvious to you as the customer.

Do you know if the oil pressure light came on?

Given how far the car travelled (it couldn't have got that warm), I'd be tempted to keep the car if it was to order, but I would be making that decision knowing I wouldn't be keeping the car longer than the warranty period anyway.

I'd definitely get some advice as to likely damage (hopefully someone on here) and see if you can get a letter from the supplying dealer confirming the fault occurred and that there will be no issues with claiming on the warranty in the future.

Good luck!

Moisture in the oil pump sounds very odd do they mean water if so is there water in the oil ie blown head gasket. If so new engine? Lots of ifs here. I'd er on the New car please side of things as this sounds v strange. Certainly your dealer needs to give you an honest explanation and a full one for you to make an informed decision.

I really appreciate your feedback, all of you! I found this car on the Mini Dealer's lot, I am leasing, so we'll only have the car while still under warranty. I will let you know what I decide to do. This is a great forum, and again, thanks for your advice and insight!

Can't tell remotely, but I doubt that 600M or so would do any damage. Even more confidence if the cars is using synthetic oil.

As mentioned in a different thread, an oil analysis would let you know the condition of the engine with confidence. If the bearings were dry you "made metal" that the oil analysis would identify (as bearing material, etc). You can get a feel for 'how bad' from the levels and the company's analysis, too. Have the dealer run one for you.

Buuut..., what the heck is "moisture in the oil pump?"

Definitely a bummer to hear as its preventing you from enjoying your new car! Very weird to hear water in the oil pump. Echoing the sentiments of many here; definitely need to know how that happened. Is something not sealed properly? How long has the car been on the dealers lot? If it had sat for a long time rapid temperature changes may have caused some condensation, especially if the car was never really brought up to operating temp. Did you test drive the car before buying it? If so did it run ok? Would be weird for that to happen all of a sudden. Maybe some mistake was made while preparing your car for you to pick up?

I am really happy to report that Mini Downtown, in Toronto really stepped up for us, we have switched cars, and took home a 2015 Cooper S 5 door. This car is really fun, now we can get driving! We could not be happier with the customer service of Mini Downtown, thanks! I really appreciate all of your feedback too, it helped.
