Today my navigation unit was stolen. This morning I walked to my car and I saw glass on the passenger side.

The garage dealer told me in 4 years time never any issue and now a wave since 4 months. Anyone heard similar remarks, or is it just here in NL.
I remember that VW had an issue as 4 screws was enough to remove the navi.

Other question: isn't the navigation linked to the VIN of the car? Like iCloud lock.

Dealer told me that if it is retrofitted you won't be able to use it as the buttons / hardware is not wired to the steering wheel. And the round menu button that is embedded in the plastic in middle console (which was also stolen) will not fit as the plastic in not preformed.

This argument: how many Mini's are there to get retrofitted via obscure obtained navigation. It is more a car for people with a bit more money to spend.

That is terrible, I would hazard a guess that the the thief/thieves were most likely stoners looking for something to fund their next fix. We keep all of our vehicles locked in a secure garage with Hi definition cameras with night vision and we also installed LED floodlights. We had a loft of thievery prior to this and we are pretty sure we know who it was, but none seen we did this, but it wasn't a cheap fix.

The DNA of my car is taken :)

in other words: the looser almost bled to death in my car while entering my car and getting the navigation out of the dashboard. So if this person committed a crime before there will be a DNA match #guilty

So fingers crossed here that the person will be punished. Only my guess is that he will be released two week later. :-/

But hopefully the gang will be round up. As I noticed on twitter that there is now a wave of navi thefts in my municipality

So very sorry to hear about this mate!:(

There was a spate of similar type thefts over here with Toyota navigation systems, but they weren't coded to a particular car like ours are I believe?

Found that a lot of them were being sold on eBay or gumtree - if you find some being sold like this maybe let your friendly police know so they can pose as a "customer" and get them!

They also thought that the likely suspects were either dodgie dealer techs or car repairers doing some nasty work on the side...

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I hope they catch them, but like you said, they'll probably get away with a slap on the wrist.

I live out in the country and haven't had anything happen anywhere close to me. As a precaution I installed motion activated LED floodlights and have an excellent Glock security system. If the Glock system fails I have a backup S&W system.

Thanks for the sympathy :)

Lucky it is a company car, but first 20 minutes it felt like my heart was ripped out as well.
Then it was on to cleaning the street of glass and on to the dealer and police.

My compliments on how the thief got the system out. No damage to the rest of dashboard.
Only window and the right vent was broken when removed.

10 for skills, 2 for execution as he bled in the car and forgot his wire cutter.

Looking forward in getting a new navigation system. Hoping to get a new map as well #optimist

Really sorry about that and I do know how you are feeling as I had a car broken into years ago now, just had a stereo head unit stolen but did more damage getting it out.. I just wish who ever did this to you didn't bleed enough... 8 pints should have done it.

Hopefully they stabbed each other in a knife fight over their ill gotten booty! Justice should be swift and terrible!

Doe anyone know if the navigation units have a kind of code lock?
I remember when my Ford navigation unit was replaced the garage gave me a code.
If the unit is off power than you have to enter the code. As it is linked to the vin of the car.
It is like the iCloud security code. Without the unit is useless?

Anyone?

The headunits, once installed are mated to the car and cannot be used in another car. Whoever stole it spent a lot of effort for nothing. This is true for most modern headunits.
