Hey All

Been doing my research the past month or so on the new 2020 mini and my, hopefully, future order....

Anyone else think the new digital dash is a bit.... Wank.... i mean it doesn't have the nav come up on it, it looks a bit of a basic after thought and if you have a HUD do you even need it?

So my question is.... if you had the choice would you keep the Analog Dash and HUD or ... Digital Dash ...and why?

Sorry if this has been asked already but i'm new to mini so trying to learn opinions and such

Heres a good video of the new dash and all its 'Glory' -

i'm not a fan of digital dashes to begin with. however, i do understand it's just the technology with the changing times. the mini could have done a better job incorporating it like many other new cars. they chose to simply do it with the least amount of costs and design. basically replacing the analog unit with what looks like a smartphone stuck on in place. doesn't quite work as a separate unit as well as the analog. i just prefer analog speedo and tachs. just looks more classic and classy. kind of like comparing it to wearing a nice classic watch compared to wearing like an apple watch.

The biggest problem i now have is that if i want the ProNav i HAVE to have the bloody digital dash, i would prefer analog and HUD ... Pissed is an understatement

I'm not sure if I misunderstood your comment, but nav guidance can appear on the digital dash. My main objection is that the fuel gauge takes up about a third of the screen, and that really isn't that interesting. It seems like there must have been a better use for that space.
This may sound weird but could you do a bit of footage as none of the dealer ones have a digital dash around mine and I’ve been in so often they must be getting annoyed with me by now. Haha

I’m back and forth on it. I like the idea of a digital dash but I’d prefer it to be fully digital. I also feel that the analogue dials suit the overall look of the F56 more than the digital dash, though I believe that’s because it’s basically just been bolted on rather than integrated.
If I could I would keep the analogue but have a HUD ... but not sure if can option it like that

Annoying as I need one in the next few months
i agree this is just their interim solution at the moment. bet the gen 4 models will have a completely re-done interior and better integrated digital instrumentation. one thing i forgot to mention is the round analog gauges matches the current "signature" round center console. this current pieced on aftermarket smartphone looking thing just looks out of place. maybe you can do like a 3 year lease on a mini at the moment until the new model comes out around then.

A few things to note about the Digital Dash.... I have one in my Electric Mini.

First of all it is not a single LED screen.
There is an LED screen in the middle third of the dash, which shows the Speed, Speed Limit, Time, Temp, Mileage, Trip, etc.
The two outer semi-circles are NOT LED screens.
The one on the left (Revs) uses a physical needle that still moves behind the darkened cover, the markings for engine speed are simple LED lights.
On the right the Warning Lights are just that, individual warning lights and a simple LED fuel gauge.

I think it is a bit cheeky to say it is a Digital Cockpit to be honest, as it uses old moving parts and LEDs, not a complete LED screen.
It is also why you don't really have any customisation to the overall display as much of it is fixed in placed, only the centre 3rd is a live screen.

This sounds even worse!

Hey thats great

So no real NAV function or audio... bit balls really then haha
There are navigation arrows and turn distances shown under the speed when the Mini Navigation is on. When using CarPlay and when you and to change tracks using the steering wheel controls, some info is shown on the screen. It is not the most comprehensive or flexible digital dash I have used, my T-Roc and Arteon cockpits were miles better. It has to be said though that it does the job and is not overly complicated.

What kind of information about carplay is on the screen? Carplay maps also come out? Thank you .
