Hi all

Have only had my mini a few days and looked at it this morning to see these on the bumper! You can't see the scratches until you go close down and they are fine.

Would anyone know how to get rid of these? Or any products that are good and unlikely to make it worse?

So annoying!

Did you inspect the car when you picked it up? Usually the dealer will have you sign off on their inspection report for a new car. Assuming it was there & everyone missed these scratches your dealer should correct this. Did the dealer detail your car?

I agree with John. Those abrasions don't look like something I'd expect after just a few days of driving. A chat with the dealer may be all you need to have them buff them out.

Just for reference, in case anyone else had the same question you do, I recently got myself a paint chip repair kit (to be used with OEM paint). The company that makes it is called "Langka" and it's just called the "Complete paint chip repair kit". I'm still in mid-repair, so I can't say what the final result will be, but the product gets great reviews on Amazon & elsewhere.

Thank you! I did check the car properly so don't think they were there before. I park on a side street (though will now move the car) so quite possible someone hit it.

I will be parking somewhere else now!

Just need to get rid of it. Not that visible but annoying.

Had exactly the same thing on my wifes black Countryman. Its more noticeable because of the dark colour. I used Autoglym paint restorer which is a mild abrasive so very gently and sparingly so as not to polish through the clear coat, then used Autoglym super resin polish which removed 99% on the marking.

Yes, a good polish with orbital buffer should remove most if not all of the marks. Just be careful with polishing....or let someone do it who has a lot of experience. You should start with the fine polish and progress to harsher (more grit) polish to be safe from going too aggressive...at least that's what I'd do.

I'd wash and clay it first! Once polished out, then seal or wax.

Good luck (that really sucks!...I have a very low regard for people who hit parked cars!!) Bonehead move by a low life who has no respect for other's property!

Good luck & let us know how it goes,

Thank you all! So annoying, but could be worse I guess. Horrible feeling though.

Is the autoglym super resin polish useful for such things or is it insufficient to take out scratches?

I read about the paint restorer and G3 but was scared to use something harsh! In case I made it better rather than worse.

Thank you!

Autoglym Super Resin Polish doesn't contain abrasives. I used only Super Resin polish on a neighbours car after they had tried to polish a scratch out by using Tcut which resuled in a matt finish to the paint.

I would try using only the super resin polish if you cant feel the scratches with your fingernail. If the scratches can be felt with your fingernail then carefully use a little Autoglym paint restorer first (better than Tcut as it isnt as harsh an abrasive)

I've also use 'Colour magic' available in car shops in a black colour which worked well too

Thank you! i think the scratches are pretty light so will use the srp as you suggest. Does it actually permanently remove small scratches or just covers them up?

I've sent pics to the dealer bodyshop too but guessing they charge a fortune!

That looks like it'll easy polish out.

Start with something quite gentle ...such as Dodo Juice Lime Prime, it can remove most surface marks like that (my mate made a mess of her Audi TTRS bonnet trying to remove bird lime, I got the swirls out with lime prime and 'elbow grease') ... if that doesn't get it out try something more abrasive such as GTechniq P1 which is a paint corrector but be gentle with it ... I bought some in a 'kit' form that came with pads too).

Thank you! And I love your detailing guide.

I spoke to Mini and they said £100 for a polish but that if that ruins it or it doesn't fix any sharp scratches they will need to do £400 for a full respray!

Does that sound a bit drastic? I'm not sure I want the brand new bumper respected already. Let alone spending £400 + VAT!

Do it yourself, honestly, it doesn't look that difficult to remove with a bit of patience.

I'd irk at paying £100 then have to pay an extra £400 if they "ruined it". No way!
