At 60 my mid life crisis, or one of them, was to buy a zero tax green car which was nicely made and full of electronic goodies but had the torque of a push bike.

Now 7 years later, thankfully I have got that out of my system and have gone back to actually enjoying driving again and Mini has had a big hand in that.

Luckily the roads here are not too busy when I am out and about, so there is room for enjoyment. Takes me back to my Mini days in the 1960s. Fun.

Am on here a lot as have a badly broken arm missing driving! Grrrr!
You have something in common with my dog, Twilight. She's temporarily lost a few HPs, but she still has great low-end torque and gets around just fine. She does make a funny clopping sound while running though not in idle. May have to take her back to the dealer to have it checked out while she's still under warranty.

Poor twilight how did she do that? Role reversal here as it was our dog chasing a cat on a stretchy lead and my refusal to let go that snapped mine! Ah well!!!
I have just been watching my birthday present . The history of the Eagles (saw 5 hem at Liverpool Echo Arena in June) Don Henley said he had a 62 tractor which 2 as rusting and beat up but still ran like a trooper regardless of age. I have spent the last 30 years bringing up family and I love them dearly. However like the Eagles sing in my Mini and 'taking it to the limit one more time'.

jb, she was a shelter dog that had an altercation with another dog, broke her ulna. So both your and her broken bones were dog-inflicted! Actually, we're "medically fostering" her but the writing's on the wall - no doubt we'll be keeping her. She's 10 years old and has been languishing in the shelter for 5 months. She's a Hurricane Katrina survivor, has been adopted twice and twice returned to the shelter. The dog's got stories to tell. She's a big sweetie with people but has problems with her own species. Needless to say, they love her at the Mini dealership - gets more attention than I do!

That's fantastic, she really deserves a good home to live out her retirement.great story.
Threads like this give me interesting insight into the lifestyles and the regulatory complexities of being a car owner in the UK. I have the right to claim UK citizenship and have considered moving over there for a time. I will have to brace myself for some of the challenges I will face if I decide to go for it.

I am not sure how I will choose a City as I have only ever been to London and the most recent visit was in 1982.
A 60 plate is a car registered between Sept 2010 and March 2011, and 63 plate is registered between Sept 2013 and March 2014
Thanks to all who contributed to my lesson in UK license plates. The assignment of plate numbers here is random so I never even imagined there being a system to it.

We have personalized plates here, where you can purchase a plate with any 8 numbers or letters but all the good combinations were bought up ages ago.
Hi Deb! Congrats on the new Mini, bet it feels great to have fun driving again. I am new too, as of yesterday. (and a big Don Henley fan!)

Fantastic, glad you are back to the mini fold. Yes this is my vo Cooper. I'm not good at uploading pics on here. I had a 2010 cooper s in laser blue , and it was my 50th this year so thought I'd treat myself. Went for the Cooper and then put in every option I fancied with the money I saved over the s. Present was an executive factory tour the week before Jasper was built. Fab if you get chance and the shop has it all. We're a mini convert family as my wife runs a roadsters s called Damon!:)

Sorry to hear about the arm :( hope the healing happens quickly for you. LOVE the VO, considering that color myself though it is a toss up between that and the Electric Blue at this point.

I too turn 50 this year (in less than a month); new Mini would be a gift to myself for what has been a trying few years. Have an '08 that I am still hedging on trading in, as it is still low mileage (37K) and gets great fuel economy (41 mpg).

Life goes by fast, drive happy :D

Cities are good but come and visit the Lake District for a contrast
fabulous views and great roads and passes to challenge drivers, avoid the hotspots, and check out the Western Lakes, beautiful

Hi Little Black Dog, great to hear from you, I'm bot a big concert goer I can name the Stylistics (in the 70's), Kylie Minogue Showgirl Tour he he. I have always loved The Eagles Music and I'm not sure if they will ever come to the UK again but the concert was absolutely fabulous especially when they came back on stage for Hotel California, perfection,

Thank you three weeks in and some tentative signs it might be improving. I love the blue but it was too similar to my laser blue cooper s. WAnted a total change. Not disappointed. Great indulg ent present!

Love the lakes Deb, we were near Windermere not last Easter but the one before that in the snow. Glad of my winter tyres on my r56 s then!
The sun always shines in the Lakes, we never have any rain...............I should really be called Pinnochio
