Hi guys and nice to be in on all the chat. I've always found sharing and learning go in hand over the years of using car forums, but never had a Mini before, until my Mrs bought a 2016 2ltr tdi Cooper sd about a month ago. It's a nice car to be fair with plenty of scope for improvements and upgrades, but before any of that, I need to sort out the issue that we have suddenly started to get after about a month of owning the car. The alarm has started to go off for no reason (mainly on a night or early hours for some unknown reason!) we have CCTV so it's not being tampered with! Anyone know any reasons or had same experience? Would be greatful of any help, so would the neighbours! Lol

First place to check is the door and bonnet sensors/switches. It's common for these especially the bonnet switch to trigger the alarm.

Thanks un1eash, I had a look at videos online and saw people talking about these, but when I looked to locate it on the same places as the video, there wasn't anything like ut there or any wires. Then it looked like some wires go to the hinge area of the bonnet, but theres no shut and open contacts or switches to be seen. Could it be on the catches for the bonnet itself?
Open windows or something eg a bug inside the car?
@jeremybingham I wish it was that easy! Been going on for a few days now and it's intermittent, had all windows and doors opened. Going to try to clean catches and see if that in turn cleans any sensors attached to them.
Try disconnect/connect this headliner control unit.
Thanks I'll try that next, I've cleaned all the catches up today and thrown the fuse back in to make it live again. Will have to see if it wakes us and the street up at 3am again lol if I do try this next, do I just unplug and wait a bit before plugging back in, or just pull the wire completely, and which connection do I need to actually pull?

Unplug
start/stop engine
then plug them back. Both connectors

Excellent thanks mate, I'll give that a go either tomorrow when I get back or on Thursday morning, as I said before it's an intermittent fault so it may behave tonight anyway and lay up tomorrow when the wife is out in it, or tomorrow night.

How to remove overhead unit
Thanks I'll be trying that tomorrow morning, alarm lasted till 5am this morning before going off, fuse pulled again at moment! I'll give the neighbours a night off, try your idea and then see how it behaves on Thurs night. It only seems to go off early hours of night, do strange!

So I've removed the unit and unpluged, started and stopped then plugged in again and reinstalled the head unit. I'll leave it to see if the neighbours get some sleep tonight! I've changed the key fob batteries, but I'm thinking the main car battery may also need a change as its only showing 12.2 volts when at standstill with ignition off. I'll see if the alarm behaves tonight, but next step will be new main battery I think!

I'll report back tomorrow!
Nail on the head! Thanks for the advice. I have checked the battery again today after it was sat for the night. As I said it was 12.2 yesterday after we had been out in it and it was sat at rest, I checked it was charging and got a good read of 14.8 whilst running, so it's definitely getting charged properly by the car. This morning it's only showing 12v so looks like it's definitely dying anyway. So I'll get that picked up today and tomorrow at some point. Then hopefully the Mrs will have a trouble free car, thanks again all and especially stu
