Me too, but quite a way to go yet... 420 miles so far. Never thought I'd be so desperate to put miles on a brand new car!
You're not falling for the old "breakin period" gag are you? I thought that ended years ago. I redlined mine on the road outside of the dealership!

I know there is a debate about the best way to run in a car, but MINI still recommend following a procedure.

What IS definitely bad for a car is to redline it when the engine is Cold

REV ON! Time to find out what sport mode can do!

Actually I find it just a bit curious that the distance travelled is in miles (imperial) and the temperature is in celsius (metric). Must be a Brit thing. Here in Canada, much to our american cousins' dismay, we have temperature in celsius and distance in kilometres. Of course even though we use metric a lot, most of us measure in inches and feet and we always buy lumber that way too. What can I say, we are just as confused as others.

Enjoy,
Oost

We in the uk are totally confused. Feet inches used by lots but mm for wood in shops, miles and pints in pubs n roads.not in that order. Total chaos! All good fun though
.

I'm sorry I am not exceeding 3000 rpm for the first thousand then 4k for the next and 5k next .then it's wahay. Unless you have a blue print engine I just think it makes sense. And I will change the oil every 6000mls as I have with every car I own . With the best oil I can buy. For not much money it certainly makes the next buyer realize you've cared.

I went mad when I got my second cooper s clubman and
drove like a tosser. after a year I could tell the difference
from my mini and my wife's. The response from mine was
awful and it didn't have the get up and go as it should have.
I took care with my F56 and never went mad and took it
easy for 1200 miles.it runs sweet and fast and it does pay
to wear her in. don't listen to the its a modern engine and
you can thrash it from new. They are wrong. the 1200
miles will fly by as you will never be out of the car and run this
up fast as I did. happy driving
.

This was from another thread on this forum about breaking in the F56 by Madday.

For the sake of taking it easy for 1K miles or risk having a bag o'spanners for an engine, I'm falling for the 'running in' gag.

To be honest, my first car was (hangs head in shame) a brand new Pug 106 which I thrashed from the get go and I will maintain to this day did it the power of good - but that was a £6K car, not £25K. Plus, I didn't keep it long enough to see if this thrashing had any real long term effects as I part ex'd it less than 2 years later but I regularly used to win the good old traffic light Grand Prix with it!

I simply kept away from full load, didn't exceed 5k but most importantly kept the engine and road speed varied as much as was physically possible.

I am now not holding back and the motor feels as strong as an Ox. I know the 3 pot has a nice unique sound but this 2 litre 4 sounds utterly fantastic when you open the taps completely. I will be raiding the JCW upgrades catalogue as soon as parts become available.

Brakes first and then ECU / Pipe....:D
