Been back with the dealer yesterday and built three different spec cars and need to decide what one to go for?

1st spec
MCS Chili Red with black roof
Interior and Exterior Sports Package
Media XL Package
Darkened Rear Glass
LED Cornering a Headlights
Folding door mirrors
Cross Punch Leather Carbon Black
Mini Yours Fiber Alloys interior
Black bonnet stripes
17" Black Alloy wheels
Panoramic Roof

2nd Spec
Same as above minus Panoramic Roof

3rd Spec
Minus Media XL but with addition of Visual Boost and Enhanced Bluetooth

Budget is getting tight so was wondering if people think the panoramic roof is worth the £600? Or is the Media XL worth the additional £1100? Or would it be shortsighted to remove one of the above options? I don't want to remove Sports Package or Leather

In the end it is up to me but would appreciate your comments

Thanks

Personally, I find the panoramic roof to be useless to the driver. Nice for the passengers...particularly any in the rear seats...but not so much for the person behind the wheel. But given their popularity others do feel differently.

I do like the XL rather a lot. Aside from simply having a bigger screen it allows you to 'split screen'. And (at least in the US) the Wired XL comes with real time traffic info and the 'writable' idrive controller while the non-XL does not.

I'd go with the 2nd spec. I'm just not a fan of the sunroof for that kind of money. If it was included in the price I might take it, but honestly on a MINI a s/r isn't paramount imo. If you live in a hot climate maybe the s/r makes sense, otherwise...nope! To me, the solid roof looks much better!

I didn't see what color interior you ordered, but I'm guessing black. If so, you really need to add the anthracite headliner...."huge improvement" over the light colored stock material.

I ordered a JCW so the anthracite headliner comes stock, and that's when I realized in building a MCS that is did not come stock.

Your color combo looks awesome though....will be fantastic with either build you have listed.

Good Luck,

John

Thanks for your thoughts, the sports packs have the anhracite headlining along with JCW steering wheel, rear bumper, front number, side skirts and roof spoiler. So thankfully covered there. Am beginning to think perhaps not getting the panoramic roof as this will bring the cost within my budget.

Also added roof rails just in case I needed in the future, not obvious that I will as only used roof bars twice in last five years but I assume if you have not got them then there is no option to fix bars even if rarely needed! Does anyone now how obtrusive this are on a black roof?

Thanks again so close to ordering but still have unanswered questions in my head, this site has been so useful.

That's good about the sports package including those things....I just wasn't sure. I don't know that much about the roof rails but from the ones I've seen they aren't obtrusive looking at all, so you should be fine. Maybe someone else will chime in who has first hand knowledge of them for you.

Great car build!

I love my sunroof. My husband has one on his X3 and you have to crack the window or the wind vibrates your eardrums and it is very rough on hairstyles. In the mini it doesn't mess my hair at all, makes it lighter and brighter, an added plus is the 2015 has sun shades included.

I find it enjoyable but only you know if it is worth it for your needs.

Had a high spec MCSD for 2 days recently as a loan car. My Car is a MCD with Chilli pack.

The Media XL is good but I didn't get round to using anything but the sat nav so no idea what else the XL does. The controller has no less than 7 buttons and a wheel and I had to keep looking down to see which one to use. I guess it would get easier with time.
I liked the panoramic roof which tilted and slide and I would get a lot of use out of it for its £600 cost.
The other thing I would have is the head up display which I really liked.

So I would add Pan roof, HUD, take away XL and also wasn't that impressed with the LED lights. They looked good in the day but were nothing like as bright as the bi xenons on my Mercedes although I only went out for a short night drive to see what they were like.

get the sunroof - its certainly worth it

the expensive one is the media xl..

why not get just the visual boost and then buy with 100$ a tomtom (or another nav device) which is updated much more frequently. You save like 500$ and get the advantages of the sunroof

You don't need the extended bluetooth to pair with your phone and stream music (as long as you have visual boost)

I have had the sunroof in all my MINIs. I will say on the days I use it I really love it. But I really only got it because I wanted everything else that was in the Premium Package, but I don't know if I'd have bothered with it just for itself. Adding the other 3 items without the sunroof was only $550 less than the whole package so I went with the sunroof.
